Hi! I’m a friend of an otherwise completely healthy 20 year old man who’s bone marrow biopsy showed aplastic anemia.

History: 2 months ago felt fine but eyes got yellow, hospitalized for VERY high liver enzymes treated with high steroids, when home and tapering off steroids (because liver was recovering), WBC started dropping then platelets got so low he was hospitalized again and has had 2 platelet transfusions. They are letting him go home tomorrow but he seems to need a transfusion every 5 days.

He’s been tested for all sorts of drugs, toxins, metals and viruses/bacteria. Nothing is showing up as a cause. Of the liver issue or bone marrow. The liver biopsy did not show signs of autoimmune.

He’s been told the only treatment is a bone marrow transplant. They have yet to test his brother to see if he is a match.

I have been serving as his medical advocate and have been at every appointment.

Any advice??
Are there true expert doctors in this??
