If nothing else vaseline will lift scales. It won't do anything for the psoriasis, but it will break up a thick scale effectively so it doesn't tear itself lose.

I've been there. I once had a flare up the inside of my thighs so big and so painful that I couldn't walk far enough to even get to the pharmacy one block away. It was the worst psoriasis experience I've ever had.

Hopefully your derm can set you up with a long term solution, but in the meantime what you want is a local anesthetic. Benzocaine is a good one. I'm not sure what's available in Ireland, but anything in the -caine family will work, but only if you can find a cream with absolutely no alcohol in it. An alcohol based treatment will burn (a lot), and it will dry out your skin making matters worse.

PLS PLS go to the................ closest ER........... RIGHT NOW!
They can page the GYN on call for the ER!
This is truely an emegergency
You cannot live w/ that pain and the possibility of infection

JULIAinFLA is dead-on about the possibility of infection. During the flare I mentioned I wound up with a severe fungal infection on top of the psoriasis, making matters far worse. Seeking immediate treatment isn't a bad idea.

However you might try to get an emergency appointment with your dermatologist rather than go to an ER. An ER will probably not be staffed with people as knowledgeable, or be as well equipped to deal with your situation as a specialist.

I also have psoriasis on my genitals and you really have to keep it moisterized i use the witch hazel and glycerin that i read about on this site.If you use it at least twice day it will help with spliting and the icthing.

Itchy
The Gly/WH is good for genital area?? That's great. I did not know.
If not I would think as Lil said Vaseline would be safe and soothing

But as Justin agrees, Mini .........GO to ER IMMMEDIATELY...PLS...don't suffer

Yes julia it helps keep it moist and there for it keeps it from cracking or spliting, and it helps me with the itching as long as you use it at least twice a day.

is it dry or wet like i get inverse sometimes and its excruciating, itchy n gross, i cnt clear it w/o antibiotics but i found a neosporin body wash that soothed it til i got to the derm good luck!

Mini,

Get to your ER, GYN or whomever quick as possible. JULIA IS SO RIGHT ABOUT THIS. Don't wait, and if it seems a bit embarrasing to talk about, just tell them what you told us. Last time I had a Pap test, it was with a new Doc, and even though I'd explained my condition, she still asked, "Do you know you have this on your labia?" I had to laugh. How could I not know?

Mini, if your condition is so painful you can't sleep, please do someting RIGHT NOW. Last time I ignored it I was hooked up to IV antibiotics for a week. Really. Infection travels.

Get Back, Let us know,

Sheri

Mini,

It does usually happen to me in armpits and groins and yes in folds, sometimes it bleeds. for me, what helps is an ointment Betnovate-N, t is steroids with antibiotic Neomycin sulfate. seeing first sign of splitting I would apply it right away, mine will start to heal after first application; and of course you have to moisturize the surrounding thick areas. And when it heals stop the application but continue to moisturize with vaseline.

im having the same issue, skin splitting in the pubic area, it hurts during sex ,,,

will steroid get rid of this ?

Jaydeep:

I had bad results with steroids when I had this problem. My gut was that the steroids I was prescribed were contributing to my immune system not being able to fight off the fungal infection. Dovonex and Tazorac combined with over-the-counter anti-fungal medication was what cleared me up. After that I started doing UVB treatments and my p has been more-or-less under control ever since.

I wouldn't put steroids anywhere near my genitals. I've never had any side-effects, even from "super-potent" steroids, but down there is both the most likely place to experience side effects (thin skin), and the worst place to have them.

Justin, i see your from Florida Amaaaaazing! Im from Ireland but am going to live in USA once i finish UNI

Technically I'm from Baltimore, and I spent most of my 20s in NYC, but I live in Florida now. It's a little less stressful. Lots of sun too, which is good for my skin.

I have a friend that lives in Ireland, though I've never been there myself. I hear it's nice, though probably less sunny.

What part of the US are you going to head to?

for skin breakage i used

westcort or hydroval 0.02
this should help if used not to long.......ask your doctor, mild cortisone for skin (not scalp, exept behind the ears), not expensive

another start using soaps from natural birch tree extracts

I tried various diets, supplements, herbal rubs, etc. but none of them ever worked out for me. I know they work for some people, but I wasn't among them. Plus I always resented having to alter my lifestyle to pander to my psoriasis.

If I were in your shoes I'd go for non-steriodal topicals to tamp down the flare, then look into a traditional technique (UVB, MTX, Embrel, Stelara, etc) to stay in remission. These days I swear by UVB, but I could see switching to a shot once they've been on the market long enough to show they're safe long-term. That's just me though, everyone's p is different.

Hi, I had the same problem and it really hurts. Mine spread down and I could barely walk. So my daughter had an idea and gave me some diaper rash cream and it worked like a charm!! Had my shower and made sure I was really dry and very carefully put some of the diaper rash cream on. It eased the pain back to tolerable and then by that night the rash was almost gone! My doc had given me some polysporin...(spelling wrong!) in perscription strength but it really did nothing so was really glad my daughter suggested the diaper rash cream! After all if it can heal a babies bottom it should be able to help you! LOL
