YESTERDAY WAS MY DR'S APPT.WITH THE HENRY FORD TRANSPLANT TEAM.AFTER MEETING WITH ALL THE TEAM MEMBERS,I GOT THE GOOD NEWS LAST,MY KIDNEYS ARE WORKING 24%,THE DOC SAID I SHOULD WAIT TO START DOING ANYTHING,BECAUSE IF I WATCH MY DIET I COULD LAST FOR A WHILE,OF COURSE HE TOLD ME TO STOP TAKING ANY HERBAL SUPPLEMENTS,SOME ARE KNOW TO CAUSE KIDNEY DAMAGE,ANOTHER INTERESTING FACT WAS,HE TOLD ME THAT THE RESULT OF MY KIDNEY DISEASE IS NOT FROM FSGS AS I WAS TOLD???????? CAN U BELEIVE THAT,SO WHAT WAS THE CAUSE I ASKED ??? THEY DON'T KNOW???? HAS THIS HAPPENED TO ANY OF YOU???

Maybe he said they don't know because fsgs is an idiopathic disease. (no known cause)

Hello,
Iam not sure,maybe you have a point,but that's not the way he replyed.I have a feeling that something else was also playing along with my health,because many years ago they told me i had lupus,and many others which were never confirmed.Thanks for your input.

what diet did your doc suggest?? Considering you are at stage 4, i would assume it would of course be low sodium, low phosphorus, and lower protien. I have found that the phosphorus is the most difficult. It is in everything, as well as sodium and protien. The problem is that labels don't always list phosphorus amounts.
Let us know what diet he suggested?? Any medications??

Here is a link to the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture that lists the content in every food imaginable....protein, sodium, phos, calcium, etc.

Being at stage 4 myself, I was just told no more chocolate, dark soda, and no dairy products at all. I do try to watch it more closely than that, just to avoid the bone problems, because I have enough of those already!

My daughter has FSGS, was never sick before. When she was 17 she went for a well child visit, said she was fine gave her a shot for collage, two mos, later FSGS. She is going for a second biopsy on Tues. her creatine is up 2.7 was 2.5 for 2 yrs. Little scared. She was doing great. Sharon

i will be meeting the dietian on thursday,they i will let you know what type of diet i will be on. As for medication,i only take Lisinporil and leyoxyl for my throid.
