I'm confused about this drug

0 Recommendations

I was told that I had osteoporosis of the spine and should start taking the drug Actonel 150 mg once a month. I started yesterday, and today it's like my entire midsection is on a vice or a semi trailer parked itself on my chest. Does it make sense to rake something that renders you useless, unless it is a life threatening condition? Does anyone know an exercise I can do instead? I'm waiting for these symptoms to go away and then tell my doctor that this really isn't not for me.
thanks

Hi Vavo:
Just taking a drug or doing an exercise will not fix your condition. Please provide additional personal info on this site about your diagnosis or you can contact me directly at woody@sequoiahealth.com

I personally do not think it makes sense to take ANY medication, herbal or synthetic that renders you useless or makes you feel worse than you felt prior to taking it.
All the oral biophosphates did the same thing to me and of course I had to be switched from one med to the next and now have been taking Reclast. Please let your doctor know your reaction to Actonel. It's not for everyone! Also, please do not stop taking the med until you've informed your physician as well.

Good luck to you and I hope you find what works best!

Hi Vavo,
I had the same experience with Forteo, and stopped it after two weeks. It was prescribed by my pain Management Doctor, and my Primary Care Doctor has assured me that there are other ways to treat this...I will see her next week.

I tried the monthly Actenol. After taking the first dose, after a week my muscle/joint/bone pain (which I have from bone trauma anyway) continue to get worse daily. I suspected it was the Actenol but I took 2nd dose. Within a few days, the pain was crippling and I had to use cane to get up and down. I called doc and she said to stop the drug but warned it would take weeks to get it out of my system. It was awful, I decided I would not take anything that was detremential to my health

Why would a pain management doctor proscribe Forteo?
