Heads up people.
It is shameful and despicable; but on the coattails of Bernie Mac's death there have been, and will be, all manner of quacks and snake-oil salesmen trying to make a buck off the untimely passing of a famous person with sarcoidosis, and the spike in fear and confusion it generates.
This is no different from someone trying to sell bogus flood insurance to the devastated survivors of hurricane Katrina. They use tragedy as free advertising and they jump on it. Makes ya sick, don't it.
In our Sarc community, it will be the usual suspects: the "miracle juice" sellers, the 'colloidal silver' pushers, the 'protocol' DVD and book purveyors, quack "PhD's" posing as medical researchers looking for you to join the club and 'contribute some funding' to their wallet.
Do not be fooled. Flag anyone trying to sell cures or treatments on this forum or 'recruit' from this forum. It is bad enough to have this retched disease, but we need not suffer the money-hungry predators that would feed off of our misery and uncertainty.
Be smart. Be informed. Be healthy.

I saw earlier one of the things you have listed had gotten on the board. I actually couldn't read a thing on the board once I saw it. I was happy when I found this site and didn't see any of the "magic cure" "snake-oil salesmen". I came back later this evening and saw your post and did a search for the post that I had seen earlier, it is no longer there. In my search I read a mod's post and took a big sigh of relief. I could have flagged that post and just didn't think about it. Thank you to all that did or whoever did.
Without enough information or the ability to accept this diagnoses, I tried on of those "magic" ideas and it did not work out so well. Don't ask me how long I hid from the sun, sat in the dark house, or went without cheese. I was just desperate and didn't have enough answers. They prey on the fact that in the beginning you don't have enough answers, "they" fill in the blanks.
Today I watered the yard in a t-shirt and shorts and ate a turkey and cheese sandwich. By the way I am still alive. Proof is in the posting.

Tell me about it! I too felt very sad when I heard about Bernie Mac's untimely death. It was very sad. So do I not now have to watch my consumption of Vitamin D in foods and not cover up? My pulmonary doctor said that it was wise to do this. And to also put on sun screen. Take care Sarc buddies! Remember there is strength in numbers!

Hey TeeGee, after reading your statement about the whacked quacks and their whacked-out causes, I have to go up to the adjoining offices and explain why I'm laughing and talking to the computer!! And yes, I really couldn't eat dairy products for almost 7 months 'cause it really did make me cough more. Course, almost anything made me cough; so I finally said, THAT'S IT!! Give me my sharp cheddar NOW! I've lived in Florida since '73 and it was the sun and the water that brought me here, kept me here and now taunts me!! I'm still healing with the 3rd glaucoma surgery and the light sensitivity is driving me more nuts than usual. I can't go to the beach with the beautiful white sand (too much reflection). I walk next door with a big hat, sunglasses like Jackie-O, and my hands over my glasses. I promise you as soon as these eyes heal - I'm going to the beach, float in my own pool (with a beverage of choice!) and feel the sun on this tan-challenged, white reflective body of mine, and then take my husband to the Keys and fish 'til I have to go back to work!! I
One more aspect of Vit D - just got blood tests results from 7/31 and ALL the tests were right in order. They haven't been for almost 2 years. So, being indoors, and cooking better, lots of veggies and fruits (again, thanks to our Farmers Markets), and not eating very much meat (can we say cholesterol count), but with the good report I had steak Sunday night!! Yea!

Didn't have the chance to read all of the replies, but I wanted to thank you for putting this info out. We certainly have enough to deal with without this form of deception, our pocketbooks yes, but even more than that, false hope.

Here's a doctor being interviewed about sarc that you WILL want to see. If you feel led, pass this along to your family and friends...as an educational tool. Or to some of the TOOLS that you know...just because they can't or won't ever have open minds.

Great words of advice TG, especially for our newbie sarc-buddies who are still learning about the traps that get set by con-artists and scam merchants.
And Doll - what an excellent video! This guy really does do a terrific job of explaining sarc in words that just about anyone can understand. I just know it's going to be so useful when it comes to trying to explain this horrendous disease to others. Thanks so much for finding it & sharing it with us all.

@jbrock: Sun screen does not stop the body from producing vitamin D. At all...
But that said: Sun screen is mostly good for you, so it probably cant hurt. IF your vitamin D levels are measured high you should stay away from all sources of vitamin D; in cooperation with your doctor. About 1 in 10 patients with sarcoidosis suffer from vitamin D oversensitivity. 1 in 10 is a few, but not so many that people should fear the sun and vitamin D. Both those things are essential for you body to function properly.

I know that those with Sarcoidosis, reportedly produce too much Vit. D in our systems, but I had almost no Vit. D at all, so I now have to take 2,000 I.U. a day of it. Go figure.......
