left side chest pain

0 Recommendations

Hi, i am new here, & was hoping someone can relate to what i'm experiencing or can give me some advice. To start with, i'm 29 & for the last two months i've been having this pain/ discomfort on the left side of chest, right over the heart area. It's feels more like a spasm & lasts just a few seconds. When i first started having these pains, they would come on 5-6 times a day, now they happen every other day about 1-2 times.I went to my doctor, & had an x-ray done, everything fine.He did bloodwork, found out my cholesterol was high, told me to watch what i eat.He basically said the pain is all in my head, what a doc, huh?I asked him if he would refer me to a cardiologist, at first he would not, saying it's not related to my heart, i pretty much had to beg him to refer me, finally he did.I met with a cardiologist, he recomended i get a heart cath done. Was all set to have this procedure done, & my insurance denied me, saying i should first have an upper gi, which i've already had done, & it was found i had a hiatal hernia. The pain i'm having now is differ from the hernia pain.Anyway, sorry to ramble on, but does anyone out there have this same type of pain, & if so, do you know what it could be caused from?I'm so scared it could be something to do with my heart!

a I am surprised the cardiologist does not do an EKG and stress-echo first. Also, cardiologists usually put a heart monitor on you to see any irregularities.
Keep after your insurance to get them to pay for the tests your doctors want. Perhaps the doctor can help with that. When you get turned down by insurance, there is usually an appeal proceedure. .Keep at it

Thank you for responding, two years ago i had a stress test done, came back normal. This time however, the pain is different, it is in one spot, &sometimes i get a tingling sensation down both my arms as well. I think thats why my cardiologist wanted to do the cath. however i guess i have shitty insurance, therfore they don't think it's necassery, cause it's an exp[ensive test. I know that something is not right though, i don't know what to do, do you have any suggestions?

Did your cardiologist suggest a heart monitor? That can show what happens during the times you have these pains or spasms. I have Prinzmetal which is a heart problem that is hard to diagnose because unless the spasms happens right at the time of ekg, heart monitor or heart cath, nothing seems wrong.Spasms show up on an EKG or heart monitor as unusal T waves. Look it up on internet. Also, I suppose it could be an esophogial spasm? I don't know what that pain might feel like but perhaps it is similar.
If you have pains and think it is your heart, then go to emergency and let them do an EKG.Because you are a young women, the medical community thinks you cannot have heart problems but occasionally young women DO. I think you need to get the cardiologist to help you get your insurance to cover the cath. Look through your policy and find out how to appeal a denial. Maybe the staff in the clinic can help you.
Maybe you should have another stress test since it has been 2 years and you say the pain if different.
Best of luck in getting some answers. Joyce
