Srarre,
Try Wristies. I work in an air conditioned building and they keep my wrists and fingers warmer.
Good Luck, John

My fingers and toes were so cold on a beta blocker. Even at the lowest dose, I had to soak them in hot water to get them warm. I quit the beta blocker because not only did I have these symptoms, I also had severe insomnia. For me that was my answer. I hear you......... Also have you thought about Reynauds syndrome as your problem????

Kathi

That was happening to me before I was diagnosed with scleroderma. I had carpal tunnel surgery in both hands, when I was complaining to that doctor he said you probably have raynauds stay away from cold, and caffine. Shame on me for not checking into what raynauds was or what it was associated with. I was young at the time and never sick. Anyway be very careful mine got so bad I have had parts of 4 fingers taken off. They would hurt before you actually saw anything. I am not trying to scare you but help you.

The disease causes arthralgia, painful joints, and can especially effect the hands. It also causes leaky blood vessels, which cause inflammation, swelling, and pain. So your hands can hurt really bad and it wouldn't have anything to do with raynauds. Mine hurt most of the time - sometimes HORRIBLY! Joint pain is one of my most painful things. Also, if the tendons tighten it can cause pain. SO - Lots of Options!

Hope you find a way to make then better. Wax baths are nice.

Blessings, Jan

thank you i will look into the wristies and try to stay away from the cold

Everyone one is right the pain in your hands can be from Raynaud's, arthralgia and so on. If it is Raynaud's your fingers will turn white, blue and then usually red. I try to stay out of te grocery store as much as possible, my husband does most of the shopping. When I do have to go for something, I run in quick and try to stay away from the frozen food dept.

Having this for over 17 years, here's my lifestyle:
-Stay away from anything cold, esp. grocery stores
-Wear gloves if you have to handle/be in cold
-Use "Hotties" everyday, even in summer (box at Costco or www.LittleHottiesWarmers.com
-Wear wristies inside, gloves outside, edema gloves at bedtime all night (very comfy!)
-Dip hands in Paraffin wax every morning -ahh- gets them warmed up for the day and movable!
-Drink hot liquids like hot water with lemon, even if it's 90 degrees outside! (not caffeine)
-Wear warm underwear plus vests over your clothes to keep your core body warm so blood doesn't divert from your extremities (hands and feet)
-Have your doctor sign a parking handicap form so in the winter you can get in and out of your car quickly
-Get a car with heated seats; always carry a warm blankey in the car for year round over your lap
-At restaurants, ALWAYS say, "Water, NO ice"
-Knit or get drinking glass covers to hold onto drinks
-Use nitrol creme or aspercreme to get blood circulating in your fingers/hands
-Wear a hat, we lose most of our body heat from the top of our heads (even at night!)
-Medicine wise, I have increased Diltiazem over the years and if I miss one day, I'm in serious pain!
I know I have more daily stuff that have become just natural to me, but have to go now! Keep warm! DC2

Hello, Starre,

Sometimes my hands hurt so badly that I could just cry. Lately, I have the new symptom of a finger or thumb locking up, and it hurts something awful! There are movements I can't do anymore..like working a screwdriver or twisting off a cap!

I don't have any magic answers for you......wish I did. I hate the grocery store too because it's so cold!!

Hang in there (just don't hang by your hands, LOL)!

Dc2 is dead on right about the hand warmers. I use the Hothands brand, bought off Ebay. They sell for under $30.00 for 40 pair. During the winter Walmart sells the packets cheap...about $24.00 for 80. They last all day, and I only use 1 at a time. I live in Florida, but every place seems so cold, esp. my mother in law's house. haha Hothands are remarkable. I also tuck them into my bra over my heart or in my mock turtleneck over the jugular vein. Does anyone know the best place to put these on the back of the hand to make sure the warmed blood flows through the hand? Sorry to go on so long, but these really help me and I hope they help you, too!!
