Home from transplant

Hello! I made it through and feel very blessed. The first two days after the transplant were really rough. I won't lie to you. I laid there and wondered why I had done this. But then I pulled myself together and got out of bed and have been up ever since. I got to leave the hospital two days early! When I went into the hospital my creatine was 4.8 and now it is 0.8. I was spilling 4 grams of protein and now I test negative for protein. I am so grateful. My best friend of 16 years gave me a new chance at life and I will not waste it. A couple of things I wanted to tell you guys was this. UCLA is 3rd in the nation when it comes to Kidney transplants. A few meds they put me on that help are these: A Vitamen E tablet (400) every morning. This is suppose to help FSGS. Also I take a teaspoon of Canola Oil at morning and night. They said they had done studies and it seems to help. I thought you guys might want to try it because what can it really hurt. Rejection meds are cellcept and prograf and I seemed to be doing okay except for a few creepy crawles or tingling. I feel really good and just wanted to give a little hope out there!

Can patients with MCNS(minimal change disease) get kidney transplant too or is it not worth it?
I'm not really planning to get it but I was just wondering...

I think you have to have 20% or less kidney function to make the transplant list. You would have to check with your doctor.

Hi I would like to know what was your kidney function.
Congrats and God bless

Congratulations!...God is good...who would have known that your friendship of 16 years would have resulted in this...I'm sure you are so grateful.

And thanks for the information on the Vita. E and the canola oil...I will consider that for my daughter.

She is part of a research group her in NC via UNC-Chapel Hill...She has been part of the group for approx. 7 weeks now...in Jan, 08 her protein spill level was 12.5...and now, thankfully, she is sitting at 2.1...we are praying for levels under 1 though....

Thanks for your words, and I wish you a speedy yet thorough recovery.

My kidney function when I went into the hospital was 12% and now it is 90%

Congrat's we are so lucky to be so close to UCLA. It rocks. I am so glad that you are doing so well..
Blessings,
A

Congratulations and I am very happy that you are doing well. Thanks for the info on vitamin E and Canola oil. I am using extra virgin coconut oil right now. I use a tbsp. when I boil rice and I also use it in stir fries and I also put some of this oil on bread and top it with whatever topping I want. The lauric acid in coconut oil is known to be anti-viral and there are many other benefits.
I also had a kidney transplant last October of 2007. Right now my creatinine is 1.1. My anti-rejection pills had been Prograf and Cellcept. My kidney doctor has just changed it to Cyclosporine because my hair is falling out a lot, now I am concerned of the side-effects of Cyclosporine.
Continue to take care of yourself, and God bless you!

My kidney function was 12% before transplant and now it is great!
