This past week there were 2 deaths that have caused many people to mourn. People will continue to reflect on the lives of Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett and their legacy will never die. That is the reality of a celebrity.

For the rest of us, our passing will transpire in relative anonymity.

She was born 24 years ago. Not to pass judgment, but by the story of her life most likely to parents who at the time had no business bringing a child into the world. Her father who she never got to know died of a heroin over dose. That was not the harbinger of a bright future for a daughter. As she was growing up, the value of an education was never really instilled in her. That along with other factors caused her to make some poor life decisions. These decisions led to her being shot and subsequently her death. Another senseless reflection of the disregard for life that is far too prevalent in today's world.

Maybe one could say that she had it coming. After all you reap what you sew. I can't concern myself with that. But I do believe if happenstance was guided by an eye for an eye, we would all be blind.

Like others whose plight has subjected them to a paralytic existence, she was trying to cope. She was trying to deal with an extremely cruel catch-22. By sitting in a chair because you are forced to, you can get a pressure sore WHICH CAN KILL. SHE DIDN'T WANT TO DIE. She was always so thankful after she got advice. But the advice was never really promising. There used to be a contributor to this site named Fuschia Fan. Now she was knowledgeable and I think she meant well, but tact was not her strong point. Not to put her down, but Fuscia advised her to stay off the pressure sore, only to be told how hard that would be. Fuscia then replied then that is your choice. That was a harsh way of putting it. Yeah that was the bottom line and it is easy to say that when it is not you that has to deal with it. Many times the truth allows no room for compromise. That is the bottom line regarding paralysis. People can express all the meaningless platitudes they want. But the bottom line is PARALYSIS REALLY DOES SUCK. You could only deal with it the best way you can.

You did that Amanda Burkholder. You may be just a statistic in the eyes of the world, but I won't forget you. Your pressure sore is healed. RIP

Pain Memory Paralysis

Well put my friend. Amanda was such an inspiration to us all and she may be gone but she will never be forgotten.

I am so sorry to hear of her passing...her life was tough enough without adding paralysis to the mix.

Additionally, I would not have known of her passing if it were not for this post.

Thank you for honoring her memory.

On celebrity death, when I heard the news of Micheal Jackson raced to the hospital... I mentioned to my youngest daughter that Micheal Jackson might die... and she looked at me straight in the eyes, her expression fixed and said... Mom, Micheal Jackson died a long time ago... My daughter seemed so old at this point.

Amanda never had a chance in life. I feel deep in my heart that she is an angel in heaven, at peace at last. My sympathy goes out to those who knew her.

Sincerely,
Priscilla Keene
