I received this from my senators office today on the petition I signed:
Thank you for contacting me regarding legislation to improve kidney care. I appreciate hearing from you and welcome the opportunity to respond.
On June 20, 2008, Representative Charles Rangel (D-NY) introduced the "Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act" (H.R. 6331). This bill includes provisions that would increase awareness, screening, and surveillance systems for chronic kidney disease. It would require coverage by Medicare for kidney disease education services supplied by qualified providers. H.R. 6331 would also establish a payment system for the treatment of end-stage renal disease, as well as an annual payment increase to help providers of renal dialysis services keep pace with the expenses.
H.R. 6331 was passed by the House of Representatives with overwhelming bi-partisan support. I voted in favor of H.R. 6331 when the Senate passed the bill by a vote of 69-30 on July 9, 2008.
Again, thank you for contacting me. If you should have any further comments or questions, please feel free to contact my Washington, D.C. office at (202) 224-3841. Best regards.
Sincerely yours,
Dianne Feinstein
United States Senator
