Hi Lorie:
I saw that site. Someone told me that the American Cancer Society will also pay for treatment for people who are uninsured. Do you know if that is true?
Susan

Hi,
After speaking with the American Cancer Society, they will help with transportation expenses to and from treatments. They might be able to assist with housing as they operate HOPE house in some states.

Bixbabe44: That's it? That's quite disappointing. What do they use all of their money for? How sad.
Susan

well all i know is the american society ,only gave my mom $300.00 they paid $75.00 torwrsd a wig and my sister n law paid the rest,75.00 for perscriptions and 150.00 for gas and it is all gone .yeah i cant believe they cant do more too.i know it goes for research but come on thats a lot of money.it is very up setting that there is not more help for people with cancer.something else for anyone who has copays or who cannot get a medical card ,ask the hospital about getting help for bills you cannot pay ,my mom found a number on the back of her hospital bill, they go by income and thak god my mom is getting hers paid 100%.she has a lot of copays adding up.they told my mom if she qualifies, which she did they only allow 300.00 to use towards a wig ,perscriptions and gas.

Wow - that is sad. Before I myself had cancer, I always donated money to them. I'm glad I never had to use them because I could've saved that money all of those years and used it for now, when I need it to take care of myself.
Thanks for the insight.
Susan

your welcome! i dont want anyone to take this the wrong way ,the money the acs gave them was very greatly appriciated! lorie

Hi Susan,
I called them because I did not have insurance and won't be eligible for medicare until February. I believe that most of their donations are used for research. I don't really know how much is slated for research in the lung cancer field. Fortunately, I was accepted by H Lee Moffitt Cancer & Research Ctr in Tampa, Fl. They will help with the expenses. I meet with them this Friday. Will keep you posted. LOL,

I have spent many hours on the web and the phone looking for $ as I have had no income since last year. So far I got 4 rounds of $150 monthy grocery gift certificates and $125 total for the year from cancercare. There is plenty of advice out there but that does not pay the rent, the deductable or the co-pay. My impression so far is that most charities take in money but they do not distribute it and not for lung cancer.

In Canada treatment is paid for at no cost to the individual.
I'm praying that with the next government in the US there will be medical coverage for every single American.
When there are Doctors and medicine available, no person should be without full treatment.
Slightly higher taxes are well worth the peace of mind and for those on welfare there is also full coverage.

ramona,i know i just cant believe their is not more help out there and i do believe there should be more help for people who have cancer and no insurance and or copays that add up because of the treatments. it makes me so sick that their is not more help just makes you wonder about donating to charity because when you need it then you cant get help!! to me your better off taking the money and putting it into a savings account for yourself so you have it when you need it !!!! i just feel the american cancer society should do more and the,and as far as medical care the welfare shouldnt put an income limit on people with cancer ,just my opinion on these things .
