Somehow being awake at night is the worst and loneliest time.

Try some Advil for the aches. You can take up to 800mg at a time (4 of the 200mg tablets) It seems to need a larger dose to get to the swelling and inflammation that causes the aches.

You might try some meditation and visualization to get to sleep. That helps me.

If all else fails, there is always late night TV. Since there is nothing on, the boredom should put you to sleep.

Hang in there -

I am sorry that you are having this much trouble. I take tylenol pm to help me sleep. I think I take one but I may take two, my memory is failing me. When i am up at late night. I work on my computer to pass the time. you can visit many inspirational pages at that time. I am writing stories of my growing up. So that there will be a history of my fanily that will live on. check out helium.com for a little inspiration.

Do you have a recliner? I think I've heard that sleeping in a recliner will help deter coughing fits.

ladyprofessur,

I can totally sympathize with you. I feel like I haven’t slept more than a few hours a night for the past three months. I take Benadryl, Vicodin, Restoril and Ibuprofen. I generally get a couple hours before I wake up and stare at the clock or watch TV. Sometimes I can fall back to sleep after watching TV.

Take care and hang in there.

thank u so very much for the time it took u all to respond to me, i think it gave me the biggest smile ive had in weeks! and ur right it really does help me to feel less alone. I will try the tylenol pm, right now it almost 3 am and i woke up for no reason and cant get back to sleep, uve all given me options to explore so ill try some and get back with u all to let u know how its going again thank u so much for the care, even at this early morning hour!!

Hello ladyprofesser,

I can truly relate to the problem with sleeping. I don't know what is causing it, but I have not had a full nights sleep in months. I am not one to sleep during the day. However, sometimes, I do take a thirty minute nap, rarely though, because my body gives me no option. Its like all the energy goes out of me and I can't stay awake. But it is interesting that it only takes a thirty minute nap to revive me. (Does anyone else have this problem?) I might try some of that tylenol pm myself. Anything at this point would be a relief. I am already tired, without having to be tired because of lack of sleep. I hope the tylenol pm helps you. Let us know.

I too have the "I can't sleep for no reason" problem! I will awake & then can't get back to sleep....I will then start the coughing & will have to go watch TV in the living room until that subsides & then after a while I try to go back to bed! Unfortunately none of us are getting the sleep we need to help our bodies do the right thing! Sleep is totally necessary! I do take naps when I feel I can't go on any longer...there are some days I literally fall asleep while watching television!

I know it helps to know that others are dealing with the same things....that is why I posted!

P.S. The Tylenol p.m. works for me the 1st night I take it, but if I try for the 2nd night....I am up even more....not sure why???

Good luck & happy dreams!
Anne

Hello LadyProfessor;

I too know how it feels when you wake up early in the morning and can't get back to sleep. I usually focus on what makes me happy and the many blessings that I have instead of worrying about why. That usually helps me relax, smile and eventually get back to sleep. Sometimes I go downstairs (i don't have a TV in my bedroom) and watch late night until i fall asleep. Also reading the bible is another way to fall asleep. It will either bore you or (once you get into it) give you peace. It gives me peace now. Although this wasn't the case a few years ago and I usually drift off. Try not to think about the sarcoid. It will only make your fears more real (especially in the still; darkness of the early am). God bless you and I trust that you will feel better soon.

thank u so much for ur comments an concern! i was hesitant to try any "PM" added meds b/c they use diphenhydramine and i know that too much of that causes the opposite physio response=agitiation, hyper altertness and no where near sleep. im up again its 3:01CST but ur responses help me to "normalize" my experiences as i havent found anyone in person here, in my area who has this disease let alone a relative. where can we have real time conversations? i would like that. i dont know the protocol so i dont want to invade or ask too much, i think its just that hearing people in familiar and similar situations and are well and active enuff to have care to offer me.............. well yeah i wanna reach out more. right now im takin aleve for my back, a once every 24 hour mega dose i did the math with my doctor and he concluded that im not takin anymore than the daily rec allowance altho not spreading in it out along the day = 5-6 22mg @once. im not recommending this to anyone i know you all know ur bodies but i do believe the 2 a day rec on the commercials is a bit hopeful. take the best of care and i do look forward to hearing from u as often as i can make it up the stairs to my comp!
