I have this problem from taking dexamethasone. Switched to the same equivalent dose of prednisolone and the problem (but not the residual stretch marks) went away! I would ask to be switched to a different steroid. There are lots to choose from that are pretty similar in terms of their therapeutic benefit, but they can have very different side effects.

Cocoa butter is the best remedy I have ever heard of for stretch marks. They do fade significantly with time.

HI
I got them too but only on my stomach and arms. They have faded a lot since I stopped taking the prenisone. But they are still bad enough that I'd never wear a sleveless top in summer.

Hi I know what you mean I have stretchmarks from having kids but these things look way worse than that I have them on my arms stomach and getting them on my legs as we speak they are really dark I ordered PURE shea butter from ebay. I will let you know how it works they also said it was good for some of the muscle pain and joint pain so maybe it will help with that too. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi kimikiwi,
I also experienced the purple stria stretch marks from the usage of prednisone, along with many other problems. The stretch marks should go away when you are able to get off the prednisone. Even though it will take a while for everything to get back to normal...meaning moon face, weight gain, strange fat dispersion in odd places on the body, thinning hair of the head but extra hair on the face ect. These are the least problematic or serious side-effects from steroids. It can cause avascular necrosis in your joints and osteoporosis even though you are young, which can even happen in children who are taking steroids. There are things that can be taken to lessen the side-effects of the more serious nature, that I am hoping your doctor is doing for you. If not please consider talking to your doctor concerning this. I know that you are concerned about the looks of the stretch marks and it seems like the show up over night when it occurs. Vitamin E and Cocoa Butter will help some, but only stopping the steroids will make them go away completely. I wish you all the best and hate to hear that you have to take this awful drug. It has caused me serious permanent health problems. I wish I had never been prescribed this medication. Most sincerely, Mandy
