while on high doeses of pred I would barely get my period and I skipped it a few times. Took a while for me being on a lower dose of pred 10mg for it to be pretty much on schedule again.

Well I have always had messed up periods, I have SEVERAL health problems. However, pour peroxide on the stain as soon as you take off the cloths or soaks them in biz laundry detergent for a few hours. Both work great!! Biz is a cloths save for me and my dirty baby cloths lol!

When I was on high doses of pred I didn't have my period for six months.

Hi KimiKiwi,

There are lots of things, including autoimmune problems like polycystic ovaries that can cause the problems you are describing. You need to see your OBGYN to have this evaluated, other doctors will probably be pretty clueless about it.

I have a lot of menstrual problems from having had toxic shock syndrome when I was 19, including hemorrhaging. Black underwear and black pants are a staple of my wardrobe! No stains, no embarrassment in public.

I have endometrosis and polycystic overy syndrom which does this also. Yes pred does this too! You might want to just double check with your OB to be safe you could have more than one thing going one.

I've had irregular periods while on prednisone as well - interesting that so many folks have had this issue.

It's important to have blood tests for the hormone prolactin, and other hormones like estriadol, testosterone and cortisol, when you have unusual periods. An endocrinologist at a teaching hospital is a good place to start.

I've had issues with irregular periods since I started having them... this was before everything with FSGS... My OGBYN put me on birth control back when I was young and that has kept me regulated... I've tried coming off a couple of times and it is a nightmare!

Well I can make you all happy....once on Pred...my period did the "Oh hey here I am...nope gotta go...oh back again..."
to nothing. It left one day in May of 2006 and never came back. I am only 46! I had blood work done, pap smears and redone. Nothing only told me that "Yep, your in menopause!"
Woo...hoo. So on came the hot flashes...luckily not too bad.
I went off Pre in August of 2008 and still nothing. Like it just packed it's bags and left. I love not having them cause I had the worse time with them so thats a no brainer. But just weird that they stopped all together. No little here and there just POOF gone.
Hang in there keep up with your pap smears and blood work. If anything is wrong they will tell you ASAP.

Mine completely stopped when I was at my sickest. It also stopped when i first got diagnosed. It came back completely worse and I actually have prescribed medication to stop it from becoming debilitating. i would suggest talking to your nephrologist or gynecologist.

My neph told me that irrugular periods are pretty normal for people like us. He said the disease and all the meds take a toll on the body. I wasnt on pred when mine stopped but i had taken it before that. I went almost 8 years with no period at all but when i started doing home dialysis, it came back pretty regular. The doc said it was because i was getting such good dialysis that my body was as close to "normal" as it had been in a long time. I found it important to talk to my nepf and gyno about the issue.
