Cytoxan journey almost at an end!!!!

Oh my goodness. I can't believe that Emma is almost done with her cytoxan treatment. ONLY 1 MORE WEEK LEFT!!!! She has continued to stay in remission since the beginning of the treatment and has suffered minimal side effects such as hair loss and some dry skin issues on her face and neck. Other than that she is doing SO well!!! With the holidays coming I can safely say that all I want for Christmas this year is for Emma to stay in remission FOREVER!!! I want to wish everyone in "Nephrotic" or "FSGS" Land a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!! I hope for each and every one of you that you get what you wish for!!! I also pray that God blesses all of us with a bountiful 2009 and that we can ALL praise Him for His grace and mercy in our lives!!

What a Blessing! I have one question about the dry skin, does it start out in small patches, then expand? My son Levi finished Cytoxan in April 2008, and we had the same issue with dry skin. I was wondering if it could be due to the cytoxan. Thanks.

Levismom;
Emma's dry skin started around her mouth and would be most noticeable right after she ate something. I think it was the fact that she was wiping her face with a napkin and would iritate it. The dry skin patches have spread to her neck and her nose but we have not noticed any other spots on her body. I know that it has to be tied to the Cytoxan becuase she has never had dry skin issues in the past. I just keep her slathered with lotion and it seems to be doing the trick. Hopefully it will go away once she has been off the cytoxan for a while. Hope that helps!!

Hi,

I did take Levi to the dermatologist, and he said that it could have been from the cytoxan, or the Predisone, drying out his skin. He did give me some Lotion to rub on him, and it seems to be working. He said that He thinks the medication had dried out the first layer of skin, and we need to re-hydrate it. The medication does seem to be working, I have not seen any more breakouts of dry skin. His skin coloring just has to come back in the places where he was dried out. It is amazing what side effects these medications can have.
