Exercise when Exercise Isn't Easy

0 Recommendations

Exercise is not always easy. Doesn't always feel great. And doesn't always leave us feeling fabulous after the fact. But exercise has too many benefits to ignore: From reducing heart disease and cancer risks, to increasing bone density, decreasing depression, increasing mobility and keeping the joints moving. I would like to inspire you to take the first step to give exercise another chance. Start very, very slowly. Remember a 5-minute walk is much more beneficial to someone who has been unable to exercise than a 15-minute walk. A 15-minute walk could well be over-doing it. If you have questions for me, just ask. I'm here to help. Karena

Hi Karena,

Say, didn't you write a book on exercise for Osteoporosis? Your name sounds similar to the author of a book I borrowed from our local library once. If you're the one, could you slip in a wee little plug for the book? I might look for it again. Thanks,

Tom

Hi Tom, Karena wrote a book "Osteopilates" which has a section for people with osteopenia and a section for people with osteoporosis. Karena's book was one of the books that I used as a guide when I was attempting to find a fitness professional that had some knowledge of bone loss. The "Osteopilates" book is very easy to follow for back extensions; etc. Karena recently had a PBS special about her new video. I was very pleased when Karena accepted my invitation to participate on the community. All the information we have received from health professional community members has been so helpful, and Karena certainly is a welcome addition to our community. Sandi

Hello, Tom!
Yep, that's me. I wrote that book. There is a dvd now as well that contains exercises that are safe for osteoporosis/osteopoenia. I am so glad you were able to find the book at your library. Don't hesitate to write with questions.
Wishing you great health, Karena

Thank-you, Sandi. And thank-you for the invite. What a wonderful community.

Hi, I wondered if there are any good effects from 'rebounding' on a mini-trampoline? An older lady, Blanche Black, has a video demo on utube-she is incredibly fit and it looks like fun. Would this be of help-low impact? thank you.
