TM Training?

0 Recommendations

Does anyone have information on Transcendental Meditation? The health benefits seem vast, yet the cost for training seems to be quite high. I am looking for a way to learn the method, without an enormous financial investment. If it turns out not to be the method I am looking for, I would hate to have made a large investment for a method that does not work for me.

I was trained as a TM teacher in 1976 by the late Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. It will work for you, because it works for any and everyone--I say this not just repeating the public TM "party line", but from my years of teaching experience--it works, period. However, I could not agree with you more--the cost has become prohibitive. At this point in time, especially since the death of Maharishi, many TM teachers have begun to split off from the official TM movement and teach independently. The TM organization actually took away our ability to teach within the organization unless we went back to be "re-certified" to teach. I figured (and many had the same opinion) that since Maharishi had made us teachers, nobody could take that away from us. If we were not going to be allowed to teach within the organization, we'd teach independently--which is exactly what many of us have done. However, because of legal and trademark issues, we cannot call what we teach "TM" or "Transcendental Meditation". If you can find a teacher in your town who was trained by Maharishi but who is no longer associated with the organization, the cost is likely to be significantly lower--this is one of the issues which has split the TM organization into 2 camps--the official party-line types who re-certified and now charge thousands of dollars, and those like me who broke off and can charge much less. We all, however, teach the same technique.

I cannot say with confidence about TM. But Yoga followed as a way of life is very helpful, provided the approach is correct and not just the physical aspects are looked at. It is holistic in nature and in no way harmful. But, I repeat, the approach has to be gentle and correct. Do not go to those who just charge a packet and make you do extreme stretches/poses. These can be harmful in the long term as well. The flow has to be gentle, smooth, as much as you can. Slowly your capacity itself increases and you can yourself feel the difference. Regards and best wishes.
