Wound Packing - 7 1/2 Weeks Post CABG3X

I will soon be taking over packing my open incision chest wounds - one pea sized, one about half the size of a dime and the largest, about 2" x 3/4".

The largest has some tunneling. All are currently infection free and the Mesalt packing is to remove slough (nearly gone in smallest two and 60% gone in largest) and to promote healing from inside out/bottom to top.

The nurses will be showing me how to take over, but I was hoping for some insightful, "hands on tips" from those who have actually had to pack their own wounds.

I'm usually not such a scaredy cat, but this is causing me a fair amount of anxiety.
