I know this is no surprise to most of us. But it does confirm what many of us have experienced!

Lynn..... Verrrrrrry interesting! Especially: "The physician's gender did not affect results...showing bias is widespread."

So whether you have a male or female doctor (and this study focused on family physicians and internists) you may very well be dismissed as having anxiety or psychological symptoms if you report a 'recent cause of stress' in your life along with cardiac symptoms.

What's the message here, ladies? To keep our mouths shut if we have just gone through a major move, a wedding, a sick child, or a divorce along with our chest pains?

At Mayo Clinic last month, we were told that about 8% of family physicians, and - incredibly!!!! - only 18% of cardiologists!!!! - are aware that heart disease is the #1 killer of women, so sadly, this study's findings are not surprising.

AAARRRRRRRGGGH!

No wonder they make us feel like hypochondriacs if we say we have chest pain! I double your AAARGGHHHH :)

Thanks for the link Lynn,

It is encouraging to see that major teaching hospitals are assimilating the gender bias significance to female cardiac treatment.

take care,
Jaynie
