Tattoos?

Hi everyone,

So I have made a small list of things I am doing for me - things that the consequences no longer bother me - I am not overthinking what people will say - I just don't care!

I always said when I was older, I'd get a Mustang - well, I took delivery 2 weeks ago and haven't stopped smiling since.

I did want to get a tattoo - but my cardiologist advised stongly against it. He said I would bleed more than usual and be horribly black and blued. Has anyone had a tattoo which being on typical <haha> meds for a heart patient and what was your experience?

Thanks in advance!!!

Judi

Judi,

Hello. My cardiologist strongly was againist me getting one, but at the age of 17 I went ahead an got one. I did fine. Mine is on my right shoulder an it is pretty big. I want another one an want to add on to the one I have. I was strongly cautioned not to do so, but will just wait an see. As long as you talk to the tattoo people an explain your health an go to a clean place I say go for it. But it is a risk an you need to be okay with that desicion an if something were to happen be okay with that as well. What ever you decide I hope your okay with the desicion. Take care. On the way to the hosptial to get my teeth out. Take care. An yes we will talk some more.

Take care,.

Abigail

Take it easy Abigail - Take care of yourself - I'll be thinking about you today, I had wisdom teeth taken out 1 at a time in the last 2 years...

HUGS & thanks!

Hey Judi,

I'll envy you if you do get one!! To be honest, I've ALWAYS wanted to get my tongue pierced, but I'm a wuss!!!!

My cardio just laughed when I asked him and said he'd say no, but that I'd hate me - so told me to ask my dentist....surprise surprise dentist said no.

Was tempted to do it anyway - saw the size of the needle and wimped out...Seriously, I'm going to ask if I ever need a heart transplant if they could pierce my tongue for me while I'm out of it =P

So to compensate I dye my hair the brightest shade of red (think brighter than a fire engine) I could find - it's not the same, but at least it's a start!!

Perhaps you could ask your GP? My GP lets me do things my cardio won't, coz he says the more experienced a doc is the less risks they let you take ;o)

I was on warfarin at one point and I found that after 6 months or so I didn't bruise as easily - so perhaps that would be a better time to get it done? I'd just go onto antibiotics before and after it in case - like with the dentist.

Let me know if you manage to get around them!

I just wanted to update everyone on this... being there may be other members who are interested in getting a tattoo...

My cardio finally did say YES - I'll be honest, I think it may have been more than a personal opinion than a medical "NO"... but we chatted a bit and he gave me the all clear. I will still be on antibiotics a few days before I get it and a few days after... I finally figured out what I want... I'll be getting it between November and December...

I got mine a long time ago.. a long stemmed rose.Yes you might bleed and get bruises, but the end result is really pretty. Tell your artist what meds you're on and to expect more bleeding than usual and please tell the artist not to be concerned. They tend to panic.

Just do yourself a favor and go to a reputable place with sterilized instruments. I was in Florida and went to Tats Tattoo on the Ft. Lauderdale strip.

Have fun!

I've had a tattoo for 18 years. Glad I did it. I had no ill affects with bleeding, etc. If you go to a good, reputable place, it should work out fine. (This was before my diagnosis, but I had had symptoms of heart disease for several years already.) Sharen, AlaskaGirl

LOL...guess I should have asked my cardio before I got mine...I wanted one since I turned 16. After the MI, emergency c-section and triple bypass, I said the hell with being afraid of the needles and my niece did mine. She has been doing them for over a year. I got my sons initals on my right shoulder and my baby girls will be on my left. I wanted them done so bad, I just said the hell with it. I'm not on warfarin or anymore blood thinners (unless you consider the 18mg of aspirin I'm on my blood thinner). They took me off of warfarin after they put my ICD in. I figured they have me on enough meds and diet and exercising I just went for it at the last second. I love mine and always will. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
