Hi, I am also 41 and had triple bypass . I also have a son named Kyle and one named Brett. My bypass was 3 yrs ago and as far as I know I am doing great. It took me well over a year to stop having pitty parties and I still have them occasionaly. Mine was due to family history and stress. My left main was almost completely blocked . Thank God I did not have a heart attack . Did you say your thallium stress didnt catch your blockage? That scares me because I don't know what to rely on. I also felt like I was the only young women going through this. I am sorry you did too. I do get fustrated that Dr's especially older men don't pay attention to young women. I was told it was an anxiety attack at first.

Oh, I had my triple bypass 1983 and I am still in a good condition. You can read of me on the pages here. In november last year I got a new stent in one of the old bypasses. They are really old, 25 years now. You must notice, they are bypasses from the vein of my leg. So everything is possible. I am not even an optimistic person. The first 13 years after the bypass I ate and lived like I had not had a bypass surgery. I have always been underweighted. I did not even get any cholesterol medication. No aspirin. Only a betablocker and a nitro in case of angina pectoris, which I hade some times.

I must only thank my surgeon who was a young curly haired man not much older than me at that time (I was 37 years). He made a good work, this Dr Müller. I have not found his new adress to thank him for these 25 years. Even if he told me as he visited me after the surgery, I should take marcumar the rest of my life. My homedoctor stopped ordering marcumar to me after one month of the surgery.

I notice my English is so bad that I stop here. I like to read your stories there in USA and where ever you are. We have not a similar possibility here in Germany.

Mirjami,
Don't be concerned about your English skills. Your posts are just fine.

Regardless of where we live, isn't it amazing how similar we are? The same fears, the same ways of coping, same feelings and the same need for a supportive community that understands what we are going through.

Dear Mirjami,

25 years and still ticking! This is wonderful news for all of us.

We take sisters from all countries here. Your English is quite good and very understandable.

I had my HA in 2000 and I have since watched women's heart disease awareness, knowledge, research, new procedures, etc., grow expontentially since that time. Even in 2000 very little was known about heart disease in women and at age 52 it was considered a "premature" HA.

Considering you had bypass in 1983, I would say that yes, indeedie, you got yourself a great doctor! Talk about lucky! I met the doctor who saved my life a couple of years ago and finally got to thank him. He said I sure look a lot better than the last time he saw me, LOL! Then, I found out that he has been following my case since the day he saved me even though he is not my cardiologist (on the staff at the hospital where I get my yearly heart tests done). When you think about it, cardiologists see a lot of death--a whole lot more failures than successes. They love to hear about their success stories. If you can continue to search for your doctor, I am certain he would LOVE to hear from you. Mine did.

May the Blessings Be!

Sherrie

P. S. Mirijami,

You're talking to me in Wixom, Michigan, USA.

Isn't the Internet great? Who would have ever thought when we were little girls that we would ever so easily be able to communicate with people in other countries? Young people who have grown up with it take it so for granted. It still never ceases to amaze me!

Where about in Germany are you from?

Pleased to meet you. Please feel welcome to join our group. There are some very well-informed women on this board, but something tells me you know what it takes to survive this disease--that you have some grit--and some helpful advice to offer us!

May the Blessings Be!

Good for you! 25 years gives us all hope! Wow!

Congrats!

I had not heard the word computer geek before. Now I know what it is. I use my computer a lot but by computer skills are miserable.
You really say it: All over the world we women have the same way of thinking and feeling. Why do we not have more power in the politics and society? We become the children and educate them.
Sherrie: After having read your mail I sent my thanks to the hospital, where I got my bypasses. The chef of the surgery department still is the same one. I will tell you if he answered me.
I am living in the southern part of Germany, near by Swiss border. Wiesbaden I know well, because I have friends there.
Today I made a 1 1/2 walking tour by - 9°C on the snow covered paths and by a bright sunshine. Very beautiful landscape here.

Dear Mirjami (the computer geek),

Yes, it looks beautiful there!

I am going to make a 2 mile "drive" to my volunteer job at the hospital today, LOL! Also, lots of beautiful snow and scenery here--but you are a far braver woman than me--I ain't walking!

Thank you for your reply.

Sherrie

Dear Mirjami,
I had double bypass in 5/04 at age 48 with no warning . I was healthy ( I thought ) athletic and active. I am a nurse for over 30 yrs and only had some shortness of breath and chest pressure for a few weeks! My cholesterol was less than 160! It has taken me these 4 + years to get to a positive place but your story has been the best news I've heard! I have been so worried for so long that I would have to do this again soon but YOU give me GREAT hope !! Thank you! Also.. I have relatives in Kirrlach and Kronau , Germany! My grandparents on my Dad's side are from there. The relatives are my grandfathers brothers and sisters children and grandchildren who stayed in Germany when my grandfather and 1 brother came to the USA after WW1 ! I also have dear friends in Koln. My husband ,daughter and my Dad came with me in 2000 to visit the relatives for the first time! Other family members had been there in the past many times but our family had not gone. It was wonderful!! We rode a boat down the Rhine, visited the Dom in Koln ( AMAZING!!!) saw the original Guttenberg press, and visited Weisbaden and even a Swiss chalet that one of our relatives had access to !! I loved it and hope to go back. Please keep in touch...It is truly a pleasure to meet you. Stay strong and healthy...Many New Year's blessings to you...Bye Donna

Can you imagine I did just now find out where I can look at the replies to my emails. I am obviously calcareous in brain, too. I was always trying to remember where I wrote a mailanswer. Up today I will answer earlier.
