Redoing Echo (computer malfunction) and Cardiolite Test Tommorrow

0 Recommendations

Hi Ladies,

It has been awhile since I have been here (I am relatively new). Tommorrow I have my cardiolite test and my echo has to be done due to computer downloading problems. My question is, I get injected with the radioactive dye at 1:30 tommorrow and then the echo is scheduled for 1:45. Can I do both together like that? Won't the radioactive stuff show on the echo? Also, why do I have to eat a fast food sandwich and drink a shake shortly after the injection? I am on weight watchers, down 6.8 in 3 weeks, and that is going to throw my pts into a tissy, any thoughts? Thank you ladies!!!!

Hi Kim,

Yes, both tests can be combined that way.....with no effect on the echo. And you only have to use up that one day. The isotopes decay rapidly.

uh...no idea what the 'fast food sandwich and shake' is about. I suggest you call them and find out if that was a joke or if not, precisely why they are asking a heart patient to injest known heart damaging substances? Ask them if what you normally eat via WW is acceptable.

Let us know how it goes,
Jaynie

Jaynie,

Thanks for letting me know about the two tests, I was curious about that.

Also, I did ask them about the food and they said it had to be fatty for the test. I still don't get it, their preference is fast food sandwiches, ummmm, doesn't make since. My father in law thinks that they run the cardiolite test twice, once on empty stomach (fasting) and the one shortly after you eat something fatty. I am just going to get a kids cheeseburger and vanilla shake, I think that is plenty fatty enough. You have been great, thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.

Kim

Kim,

1:45 is rather late to schedule a fasting cardiolite test. I'm guessing you are not diabetic because they try to get them done first. I've had 4 cardiolite stress tests and not once was I allowed to eat until both scans were completed. I was told I could get something to drink during the hour of wait time after the first scanning session on empty stomach. But no food. This is intriguing. I hope you will learn more today about the fatty foods part.....It appears the nuclear scanner can pick up on immediate changes in the heart function after ingesting fatty foods. I'm guessing that is what they are looking for in someone your age.

We'll be keeping an eye out for you....Check in and let us know how it went.

Cheers, Jaynie

Hi Jaynie,

Thanks for keeping tabs on me, you are a sweetheart. Did your cardiolite scans ever show anything? The tech told me that my heart rate came up beautifully and blood pressure was good through the entire test. I am just afraid that it isn't going to show anything. They were doing my echo and my lung kept getting in the way of the heart LOL, they had me rolling around like a wet dog to rotate the heart. Doesn't that seem weird, I didn't have any problems with that last time. I think I am done after this, I have had these pains on and off for many years, if they don't find a problem, then I will just deal with it. Talk to you soon.

Kim

Hi Kim,

TGIF : ) !!

Rolling you like a wet dog...LOL! That puts a new twist to 'you have a great set of lungs' huh : ) The right lung is larger than the left.....the left is smaller to accomodate the heart space.

Do you have a followup app with your cardio to discuss the scan results?

I'd already had heart attacks and scarring before my first cardio so they find advancing stuff every time. So far I am keeping just ahead of it. (smile)

Take care and let us know......

Jaynie

Jaynie,

You are funny!!!! If my left lung is smaller why was it in the way??? LOL. Anyway, I got my cardiolite results back and all is good. Figured it would be, they can't find a damn thing. Still waiting on the echo though. I know it sounds stupid but I almost wish they would find something so I can stop thinking I am nuts. I don't have a followup until Jan as long as everything turns out ok. How old and when did you have a heart attack? That is scary. Did they find something wrong right away or found nothing and that was the end result of "nothing"? My husband was telling me about a guy at work who had the nuc scans, stress tests, ekg, echo's and they found nothing. A year later or less he had a stroke and HA. How does that happen? I don't get it, but it is very frustrating when you know something isn't quite right, ya know? Well thanks for keeping tabs and I will be popping in again soon. Hope all goes well for you.
