Putting On The Weight

0 Recommendations

When I had my beautiful little girl 3 years ago, I knew that I would have some weight to loose after she was born. I had gained 60 lbs during my pregnancy! Well, 3 years later, I am still packing about 30 lbs of it and I have gained 10 more pounds on top of that. I read that one of the side effects of the Coreg was weight gain. I also take a birth control pill and I have read that they can also cause weight gain too. I had Essure done about 1 1/2 years ago to prevent pregnancy, but I cannot deal with the cramps associated with periods anymore.
I have tried dieting, including a website called SparkPeople, to help me count calories and carbs. But, I can hardly make it through half the day before I feel like I am literally starving and craving food. I've been excersing too. Nothing seems to be working.
Has anyone out there had a difficult time loosing weight? I was just wondering if there is something else that someone may suggest that may be helpful. I go back to the cardiologist August 12 for a check-up.
Please Help..........I'm getting desperate!

Hi Kamrynsmom,

We all undermine our own efforts to control the weight by forgetting that this is a marathon and not a sprint. We didn't put these pounds on overnight and it will take a steady pace to take them back off. There are no miracles when it comes to weight loss.

It sounds to me like your body is calling the shots here - perhaps the types of food you have been eating are the culprit for the cravings. I know when I start eating sugar and carbs, I want more and more and more.

Part of the secret of weight loss I think is not undermining our own good intentions. Rid your house of the food that is bad for you - remove the temptations. Import lots of fruits, vegetables and other nutrition laden food. Summer time is a great time to do that - everything is fresh and available in the markets.

I kind of suspect you know all of this though. Keep your beautiful daughter in mind too - she needs her mom around and that should be a healthy mom who is setting good examples for her. :-)

Good luck in finding the trigger that will put you on the path to healthier habits.

You can do this,
Laura

birth control pills are a known risk factor for heart attack in young women. I hope you will consider other options, although I know this is a very convenient one.

I've been on Coreg and other beta blockers for over a decade now....while it quadrupled my fatigue level (but keeps my heart from going into random arrhythmias now) and that caused me to barely be able to move beyond work and basic daily grind, it did not cause weight gain in itself. It created heavy unfightable fatigue levels....so I had to cut back even more sharply on my food portions, which were already fairly stark. It takes small portions + body movement for me to maintain a normal weight.

Heart girls can't afford to give in to cravings. It is too risky.

Hugs to you and your beautiful daughter,
Jaynie

Hey there..I am in your shoes. The advice we get is incredible. My entire family has the overweight DNA and finally the medical community is realizing some people cannot loose weight through traditional methods. Just ask Oprah how hard this is ! But when you are a heart patient and on Coreg, this task is even harder. I guess you were asking for some ideas, however I am scheduled for a lap band weight loss procedure in August. My long time general Dr and cardiologist believe the weight is life threatening for me. My brother has cardio myopathy and lost over 150lbs thru gastric bypass surgery and his EF is a NORMAL 60 !! So that's the direction I am going however drastic this is. I may be lost 15lbs after the heart diagnosis, but it ALWAYS comes back and this is through very healthy living. I wish you luck and hope you just focus on eating very healthy and moving your body if you can. I am sure you are as tired as i am, especially after working 4 days per week. Best reguards, MaryCorinne
