Prinzmetal Angina and Links with Autoimmune disorders

I was diagnosed with Prinzmetal Angina over 6 months ago. I was feeling a lot better on my medication. Over the last 6 weeks or so I have noticed increasing thirst and need to pass urine, fatigue, dry and itchy eyes, dry skin especially my hands. I saw my GP today who has now got me scaed about possible complications of electrolyte imbalance and heart damage. He is also sending me off for fasting bloods tomorrow to check for a myriad of things such as autoimmune disorder and diabetes. I have impaired blood glucose. He seems to think there could be a link with an autoimmune disorder that could have damaged my pituitary gland that may have been indicated in the cause of my Prinzmetals. I wondered if anyone else had heard of this or anything along the same lines. I feel like a patient of "HOUSE" and have done during this whole process and leading up to my Prinzmetals diagnosis. This is just a new twist to the tale and I was kind of hoping to start feeling healthy again. I am only 40!!!

Your thoughts would be welcome.

hi busymumofthree!

Last year I had a heart attack out of the blue! I had been having slight discomfort in my jaw and upper arms for about a week prior and tried to ignore it until wham-o it hit. I had an angiogram and they found no blockage or extreme disease and labeled it printzmetals and started me on verapimil a long acting. Nitrostat and blood pressure meds and sublingual nitro. A month later my cardiologist referred me to a rheumatologist as he was suspecting other factors. I was diagnosed with SLE Lupus which is an autoimmune disease which was the culprit for the heart attack the whole time. I am now on a myriad of meds to help treat the Lupus. Prior to the H/A I had degenerative disc disease and had under gone two spinal fusion surgeries and a laundry list of other skin related, muscle related problems. Unfortunately for me the auto immune was diagnosed last and had it been diagnosed first perhaps some of these other issues could have been prevented. Be patient with your rheumatologist as diagnosing is a "process". I hope this has helped a little and I wish you the best of luck!

Hey Little Sister,
What meds are you on? How's your thyroid?

I'm Stacey and 43 yrs old, let's talk.

Thank you for your comments. My thyroid is fine I think Stacey. I have elevated cholesterol, impaired blood glucose, vit D deficiency, severe iron deficienecy, weight gain, profuse sweating, severe thirst, dry skin and horrendous mood swings. My GP sent me for more tests today and is talking about Cushings Syndrome. This can cause vasoconstriction so may be an underlying issue in my ? diagnosis of Prinzmentals. My parents spoke to a Cardiologist at a dinner party over the wekend and he was very hesitant with my Prinzmentals diagnosis in the first place, especially as he said I must have had a 3 day ecg machine strapped to me to verify st elevation and I never had that. I am now questioning my diagnosis as well as trying to deal with this new phase of health checks. It is so heard to pick yourself up. It took over year for the Prinzmental Diagnosis in the first place. I feel so deflated.

sorry I forgot (another symptom) that my meds are Diltiazim 360, Nicorandil 20, GTN patches at night, GTN spray as needed, Nexium 20, Seretide 500/50, iron and magnesium tablets for deficiency.
