Post attack pains

How long is a piece of string !! Maybe that is the answer to my question. I still would have pains in centre chest, numbness in shoulder, and the occasional sharp pain in the shoulder blade. This apparently could be a result of CPR - anyone else like to tell me how long you had discomfort after your event? The consultant has assured me it is not cardiac, I'm 6 mths post MA.

I have been having shoulder pain which my Doctor said it frozen shoulder with pain, back pain and some chest pain. 7 months post open heart surgery..I keep letting my Doctors know even though they said it's all healing pain....I feel if it get too severe I will be in the emergency room having them to do ekgs CT or whatever they can to make sure it nothing eles...
Good to hear though that I am not alone. I'll pray for you and you pray for me and we will get through this.

Oh my I was just going to post this as a new topic....I have been afraid to sleep some nights as I have what feels like a seriously pulled muscle, twisting pain and a feeling like I had when I "wrecked" my shoulder as a teen playing basketball...and my open heart was a month ago today.
Some days I need to put a little pillow between the side of my body and arm when I'm laying down to find a comfy position....and there are a couple spots near my incision that feel like someone is pressing with their knuckles for hours a day....and my nurse says it seems like I may have a rib cracked or bruised cause lately on my right side near the bottom of the rib cage is tremendous discomfort, to the point I can't sit straight in a chair.
Last weekend I ended up at ER with the "knuckle" like pain and racing or very strong heart beats....things were cleared through CAT scan and they felt it was just healing....but I seem to have a good day and two or three bad ones...I know it's only been amonth but it's very frustrating and scary...

what on earth does 'cleared' mean if you are having these announcements from your body that something is not right!! did you consult your cardio or say an internist? You need a second opinion. Nothing is cleared if there is still this kind of pain!

I had a stent placed after an MI 6 months back, and continue to have left shoulder pain.It radiates down to my fingers too.My last thallium scan showed that the perfusion was good to the area that had infarcted. I must say it bothers me. It seems that it is worse when I am stressed about something. Sublingual NTG helps at times but sometimes it doesn't. I am exercising, doing meditation have cut back my work and am on a strict diet. I am taking Plavix, Aspirin, Crestor etc as well daily. I think it's time to get a CT angiogram to study the patency of the stent. I wonder whether there is any narrowing. I hope and pray that there isn't any. My appointment with my cardiologist is in 3 weeks.

I am 3 months post two heart attacks (yes 2 within 4 days), two angioplastys, and one stent. I also continue to have chest discomfort. I am not so much afraid that it is another heart attack as much as it is irritating and annoying. The heart area feels like it is irritated similar to the way your lungs feel with a bad chest cold or bronchitis. I am more aware of my heart now and maybe the fear of another MI is causing anxiety pain. I really don't know. After a nuclear medicine stress test the cardiologist blamed the pain on anterior ischemia.

Wow, this was an issue with me also. My dr. gave me some good advise that I still use to this day. It doesn't hurt to get old, if there is any type of discomfort or pain something is wrong. Have it checked out.

He is one of the best heart specialist in my area.

My heart goes out to you....You absolutely are a Braveheart!! (smile) You may be one of those unfortunate women whose heart had a less than smooth transition from beating for 2 to taking care of 1. There are other women here who've had similar events not long after giving birth so I'm sure you will hear from them. Happy for you that you have those beautiful healthy children. Your heart may not be able to support another pregnancy so you may want to consider consulting a high-risk ob-gyn.

My cardio continues to tell me the constant ache in my chest, sometimes a feeling of suction and nausea, sharp streaking pains that shoot under ribcage and sometimes to back between shoulder blades isn't caused by massive heart attack....that while yes, there is a significant segment of dead heart muscle surrounded by expanding ischemic tissue, that no, that still can't be heart related. I don't want to be discouraging to you Braveheart, but you have all those young, bouncy squirmy lovely children so I hope the women here will offer you their true experiences.

Long term, I've dealth with the constant chest aching and tugging pains non-stop.....I know it is because the parts of my heart that art chronically oxygen/blood starved ache and spasm. They struggle to fight to keep my heart alive and pumping and I love my heart for that. It's been 15 years for me with no letup. But life can still be lived and you may find that you can thrive in certain areas of your life .....if you focus on the things that are your highest heart priorities you'll be much happier overall.

I sincerely hope you can extend your maternity leave another few months.....massive heart attack is very serious, not really understood in terms of true lenght of recovery. I was 'cleared' for full time job 10 weeks after acute MI, 2 stents and much dead heart muscle from previous attacks by 41. 'Cleared' in medical terms means there is adequate perfusion according to scans and tests...but this has no relevance to the actual permanent damage from heart attacks in women. It took me 3 years to begin feeling more normal, but still never able to rise much above barely functioning beyond survival modes.

As the other women will tell you, listen to your body first, your feelings about what to do.

I hope this is helpful in some way Braveheart. I have a soft spot in my heart for young moms with a houseful of rambunction, darling, exhausting (in the good way) children.

Hugs to you and your family. It sounds like everyone is trying to chip in and that is lovely.

Again, the longer you can delay returning to work, the more time your heart damage has to repair itself and the easier your workforce reentry will be. The first year is hard for women, so whenever possible, I hope you will fiercely drop lots of dead weight in your daily life and live from your heart....for your heart health!

Hugs to you and your charming family,
Jaynie
