Plavix and stomach pain

Due to blood in my urine and extreme stomach cramps, I was taken off my Plavix which I had been on for 3 years following a heart attack. I am hoping someone can tell me how long it stays in your system after stopping it. Been off it now for 8 days and still having some cramps though not as severe and so far no more bloody urine. My Dr. did tell me he wanted me to stay on my asprin however along with the protonix. The protonix doesn't seem to help much any more--any suggestions?

It only stays in your system a day, day and a half, but it takes ten days until your platelets are not impacted by it. Are you taking coated aspirin? I came off protonix, I take Zantac as needed, it will take some time for your tummy to heal. I find eating yoghurt helps.

Threesacharm--Thanks for your reply. Nice to get to know you-your name is familiar as I know you have commented to me before on the issues I had from my plavix and bleeding questions I had on the heart health site. I was going to go off the protonix whether my Dr. agreed or not because of the bloody urine and stomach pain. Didn-t have to. He told me to go off once he knew I had blood in my urine. He did tell me to stay on coated asprin and stay on my protonix. I do hope the stomach pains go completely away. Mine feel as though I have just done 1,ooo sit up or like I was just hit in the stomach. Is that how yours felt?

Yep, raw. But it gets better. As of today I am three months off plavix. Yeah, I have passed the 90 day plavix rebound phase! When I was on plavix I used protonix and another drug called domperidone, I think it is called motillium in the US but I think you actually cannot get it. The domperidone empties your stomach, the protonix reduces the acid. Protonix is known to become less effective over time though. Now that you are off plavix, there are other PPIs that you can use and perhaps switching to another one might work. I think there is nothing worse than that stomach feeling. I have weaned off the protonix now, but people with a history of stomach ulcers, gerd etc sometimes take it really long term. I still get the occasional tummy pains and I use Zantac for that. Yes, I did reply to your last post. I have been off protonix a month now and things are setting down. That plavix is a real killer on the stomach. I might get tummy issues once a week now but I have noticed that the day i get it I have usually have had very acidic foods. So I am being more conscious of that. Good luck, it will improve, watch your foods for acidity and see of that helps.
