It's embarrassing to have to tell you the whole story, but here goes........last month my car insurance was due (thankfully I rarely drive my car), and I forgot. On October 2, the 30-day grace period was over and my policy cancelled. GREAT....grrrrr. This is something that I take care of, not my husband, so he was pretty much oblivious to what was happening!!! Not his fault. MINE. Anyway, I had to call the insurance company yesterday, and I was explaining what happened and mentioned that I had just returned from Minnesota.

Just for conversation's sake, she asked, oh, my, must have been cold. What were you doing in Minnesota.

I proceeded to tell her about WomenHeart.

You'll never guess what happened next -- well, maybe you will!! She is A HEART PATIENT!!!! She has had cardiac ablation twice for an SVT with A-Fib problem. She started telling me HER story over the phone and started crying. So we had a long conversation about heart issues, and then she started coming up with ideas for me!!!! She knows the woman who runs the "breast cancer boot camp" in this area, and when I mentioned the link between radiation for breast cancer and heart disease, she decided that I HAD to speak at one of the breast cancer meetings.........

I can't believe it. Here we go.

Next, I took the mugs that I bought at Mayo and filled them with dark chocolate kisses and delivered them to my client's office. My client (GI specialist) had me come in his office and tell him all about the symposium. He was one of the people who wrote the letter of recommendation for my application. He actually THANKED me for getting involved in this!! We need people like you in this community, he said. I also gave him the red bag that we had received at the symposium so that he could look through all of the literature that was contained in the bag. He LOVED it. He's going to see if he can work out somewhere for me to speak in HIS circles.......

OK, ladies.....this is going to be an interesting ride!!!!

I'll keep you posted.

Go Dana Go! That's fabulous! The Marketing Manager at my company has already interviewed me for our upcoming newsletter which will be distributed to all Bell employees in the US, Canada, South America, Mexico, China , and Germany!

Dear Dana,

I was wondering if you had breast cancer in the past that you know so much about the link between radiation and breast cancer?

I had two mastectomies, radiation to right side and chemotherapy which the doctor states the chemo did the damage to my heart. I just had another scare this month, another lump was found in my reconstructed breast and it was fine needle biopsied and it was negative for malignanancy (Thank God).

Hi Dana...I forgot to pay my car insurance one time only and then I get another bill with the two months on there...geezzzz I was flabbergasted that I forgot
to pay this so now what I do is mark my calendar with
the bills that are due and also dr.s appts lol....
My calendar looks like, "who did it and ran"
it's all filled up!!!

CK -- No I did not have breast cancer. The main reason that I know this is because I've been in the medical field for 32 years, so I've just learned these things over the years. However, I do have a friend who had breast cancer and was told that heart disease was a definite risk because she has had chemo and radiation -- and she had her cancer about 20 years ago. I'm glad you got such a great report from your biopsy!! Yeah!!!

(I've owned a medical transcription business for 20 years...that's the medical field I'm in....so I have experience in all medical specialties. I've been blessed in this business....)

Welcome to the wonderful world of WomenHeart Champions. The sort of reactions you are getting will just continue and grow from here. It's exciting, isn't it? After a full year of involvement, it still growing strong for me. It doesn't get old or stale. There definitely are ups and downs but the ups definitely outweigh the downs. Don't be discouraged by small groups when speaking - actually I prefer those. You get much more audience participation because they are not intimidated by large numbers of people and they feel much more comfortable questioning and commenting. You get great stories! Awesome, go get the word out!
Also, wondering if the insurance woman re-instated your policy, no late fees - you know, the heart sister special!!
