Hello barbed!! As you can see from my picture here, I LOVE my cat!! His name is Earl Gray...just like the tea, but spelled uniquely for him. He is quite distinguished. :) I'll bet when you get to know your new baby, a name will just come to you.
Enjoy!!

Is there anything in the world cuter than a new kitty? When we adopted our cat from the shelter, my daughter Googled 'cat names' and found zillions of suggestions. Our family spent a hilarious hour trying out dozens of possible names from these websites - sometimes we liked a name, but then looked over at our snoozing cat and decided that she didn't LOOK like that name would fit her!
And really - does it matter? Cats don't come when you call them by name anyway....
Is that a photo of your new cat? BTW - did you know that cats lower your blood pressure? Great therapy for heart patients!
XOXOXO
Yes-- we have two cats now: Pinky and Big Boy. I tried naming my cats for cartoon mice, but that didn't work. Now I just name for characteristics. Pink ears=Pinky. Big=Big Boy. I'm not very creative when it comes to animal names-- that's why I need suggestions.
I think Earl Grey is a terrific name, Careh. See, that's what I want-- a creative name.
Hi! How about Mac, or Bob or Buckingham or Kevin or Fleetwood or Blue? ;-)
My cats have been called Bozo, Elmo, Bert, Joe, Henry, Clyde, Digby, Martha, Otis and Ozzie, at the moment I'm cat-less and waiting for the next stray that needs a home, lucky you getting a new furry friend, a home is not a home without a cat, at least it feels that way in my house!
Grace,
Mine is Monkey--I know, don't ask!! :)
Monkey! That's great - we named our cat "Lily" but I often call her "Lily-Monkey". I think those hyphenated names are just oh-so-sophisticated, right?!?!?!!
My son, Ben, like Barbed, prefers descriptive names to suit the cat (like Blackie or Boots or Fluffy).
If I had a boy cat, I would name him Elliott after that yummy TV character on 'Law & Order'....
:-)
Our cats were Yahtzee and Scrabble. Husband very allergic but put up with it for the kids ( and me) but now both are gone due to old age. How fun for you to have a kitten.

My kitty's name is Bridgette (probably spelled wrong, but does it matter..... :) ). She came from the shelter with her name and it suited her so we kept it. She is 15 years young.
What sweet kitten pix!!
Earl Gray is quite the handsome guy : )
Because I've always gone with strays, I've always waited a while before naming them...to get a sense of their personality. It just seemed so rude to stick a name on a creature right away like it was a jar of mayo or something. : )
Ferals seek me out for some reason and I have an affinity for them. Maybe because they are a challenge and one must study them carefully, watch, wait, learn how to entice them closer over time. A friend from Alaska just sent me a telephoto shot of a Maine Coon cat that frequents his deck for cat food but is off like a shot if anyone approaches. Now I finally know the breed of my newest feral...she has that indentical wild greyish long hair that looks like she stuck her tail in a socket! zzzttt! and beautiful pale green eyes. It took all summer but now she allows me to stroke her thick fur and purrs so hard she gives herself a runny nose.
I've been trying out different sybillant sounds to see which ones she responded to most....'sssss' is the winner. When I tried Miss Missy or Miss Misty she got very happy suddenly and rolled around batting her eyes. I'm guessing she may have had a brief stint with humans who called her something with the 'ssss' sound in it. I keep names to one syllable or less. Miss Missy raced in the back door after Murf before she realized what she'd done, scared herself and blasted right back outside. I've made her a warm nest of old flannels surrounded by water/wind proof old shower curtain on the porch swing....she snuggles in it like a cake decoration...loves the good life this one : )
Murf, my Himalayan, responded to the 'murfffff' sounds at 5 weeks. And I wanted to give him a very different call sound compared to Soncho, my 16 year old tiger cat. 16 years later Murf is very hard of hearing but that 'murrfff' gets through in higher tonal ranges.
Cat people are just cat people huh. Last week, there were 4 in the front yard with me as I worked...only 1 was mine : )

I was just watching HGTV and a woman on there had a cat named Yoohoo! How funny would that be to go around your house calling Yoohoo, Yoohoo. Well, I thought it was funny...
Lucky you, I love cats and have five. If my husband let me I'd get one more.
Your new kitty is cute. See how his/hers personality is and choose a name fitting name. Example: I named a female cat Missy, but in reality she should have been called SOCKS, she is a tuxedo with white socks on her feet plus she loves to play with socks. She puts her claws in the drawers and pulls out my socks. The last cat I got I adopted so she had a name and I had to stick with it because she knew her name. I hate the name BOO BOO - but it stuck.
WIshing you luck with you new kitty, I am

He's very zen. Calm, confident, and completely trusts humans. Not too intimidated by our other animals either. Very curious, too. Interesting and different personality than our other cats.
I had one a bit like that when I was 10. Named her twinkle but just called her kitty. My brother called her jack-ass. How about pickle or potsu-potsu ( sound of light rain in japanese) . Theres a fat cat next door I call her amber.
Barbed, I have an outside kitty I call "Jean Luc". He is an orange "morris" looking cat, but highly distinguished.
When I first picked up Earl Gray as a tiny kitten (he was born to a feral female in our garage), he hissed at me and looked grumpy, so I said jokingly "You're grumpy. I'll name you little Earl." (We actually have a dear friend named Earl). The "Gray" part came later. Jean Luc is named after Captain Picard from "Star Trek TNG". I'm sure a wonderful name will come to you soon. Have fun getting to know your new baby!
Carolyn
He is great! So friendly and happy. No name yet--I'll keep you posted.
