I would like to share my concerns and symptoms to see if anyone has insight for me... thank you in advance for reading and helping...
About six years ago at age 33 I started to experience occasional heart flutters. While it was weird, I did not think anything of it. At the time I was just a few lbs over weight, fairly fit with no other risk factors.
Fast forward to a couple of years ago when I was having my chest listened to for a cough. The doc said, "What was that!". She had heard a small heart flutter and immediately hooked me up to the EKG, which did not register anything (of course!). She referred me to a cardiologist where I had a longer EKG (still nothing) and then had a Holter monitor for 24 hours (still nothing). I was told to cut down on the coffee (2-3 cups per day) and that was the end of that episode.
Fast forward again to last year when I started to get intermittent mild chest pains when at rest. i.e. sat in church. It would throb every twenty seconds or so over the period of about five mins (guestimates).
I eventually went to the doc. First thing, I was anemic so was given iron supplements. I was and still am extremely tired most of the time, poor concentration etc. I have a good day every now and again and tend to over do it on that day.
They thought the anemia was due to the very heavy periods I was having, so I had a Novasure procedure in Nov 08, and have had no more periods since then - yay!
In the mix with all of the anemia stuff, I was referred to the cardiologist again for more tests. I did a stress test on the treadmill, which did not bring on the angina. He gave me nitrates and beta-blockers.
At this point I'll mention that I have always had low blood pressure - even though I am now a good 50 lbs over weight. It was 103/57 the day of the stress test. It has since crept up to my recent 108/68.
I have only taken one nitrate and hated the way it made me feel. I feel that the pains are not bad enough to warrant taking them - yet - instead, I will take a baby aspirin if I feel the pains are getting worse. That seems to work.
I took the beta blockers for a couple of months but felt like death. I could not function b/c I was so fatigued. I weaned myself off them.
The cardiologist did want me to go back for more tests - a nuclear test? But my health insurance is useless and I could not afford it.
So, here I am several months later, still experiencing occasional mild chest pains - on two occasions I have had strange feelings in my left arm - on a few occasions I have had stabbing pains between my shoulder blades - and I am still extremely tired most of the time.
I have made an appointment to see my std doc next week to run some tests on cholesterol and all that. I am so scared about how much $$$ this could all cost that I am reluctant to seek help.
From some lengthy research, it appears that it could be Prinzmetal's? Not yet knowing if there is any heart disease (I actually doubt it), I am still taking heed of the advice on diet and exercise.
One other thing that has crossed my mind - I am A Rh negative blood type - I wonder if this is a common factor with other 'vague' heart issues?
Any words of wisdom, advice or guidance would be much appreciated. I have crawled all over this website and have been very encouraged by the wonderful spirit of the people here.
Thanks and blessings!
