As in MOnday, Jan 5th? Cool Lynn....Sure would be fun if you popped onto the screen at some point.!!
thanks for letting us know about this,
Jaynie
My friend called and saw the promo. Based on what she saw, this is the segment --- she saw me in the promo. In addition to the footage filmed on that day, three of us were interviewed by the reporter. And ABC News followed up with Carrie as she began to speak to women in her community.
For those of us who have no idea who Charlie Gibson is..... What time?
Charles Gibpon is the anchor of ABC Nightly News. Air time will vary by timezone.
Sorry Canadian Heart Sister!
Sometimes I forget we live ALL over the world - not just in MY corner!
Do you only have Canadian TV?
If so, I'll bet they will have a link we can watch on WH web page once it airs!
The closest ABC affiliate we pick up here on the west coast is Seattle, so I'll tune into KOMO Channel 4 on Monday evening. I always figured it was just local Seattle news coverage, though.
It's not that we have ONLY Canadian TV here - it's just that we prefer to watch Canadian news rather than American! Yay, CBC!!
XOXO
Ha, of course you prefer Canadian news! I had to laugh at my USA narrow thinking!
Sometimes I would watch Canadian too, if I had it! ha ha Down here in Houston, probably all I could get would be Spanish speaking which I couldn't understand.
We don't have cable (by choice) because there is already not enough time in the day for everything our brains want to do and hear - so we figure we need not make the choice to obtain even more! Now that digital TV is almost here, our reception (using the 'box') is as clear as a bell using the antenna and the box.
What many people don't realize that using the box, there are anywhere from 3-6 channels affiliated with each network channel ie ABC, CBS, PBS, NBC and they can only be obtained using the 'box' - but I still haven't found a "Guide" for them, so I just have to "happen" on them!
Last week watched a wonderful 1-1/2 hour special on PBS about Chihuly Glass artist and some of his contemporaries at the Glass Museum where they were all showing off their expertise! Made me reminisce about seeing his chandelier at the Mayo Clinic Building in October 2008. Was an awesome show!
Well, this was certainly 'off topic' rambling, wasn't it?
This story is scheduled to air tonight.
Lynn,
Thanks for this reminder to watch the news tonight! Sure enough it had slipped my mind!
Jaynie
I caught the clip !!!! Great report!!!! It is certaily something that needs to be addressed so women don't suffer.
Karla, I got to see too!!!

I have to say I am a bit taken aback that with American women having heart attacks and dying in such mammoth numbers that the only place they can turn to for outreach?????..........Going house to house? We have to go grass roots to spread cardiac education? Like Tupperware parties? Very very difficult for me to swallow.
ABC did a masterful job of showcasing the Mayo/WH symposium mission agenda of spreading the word....and ending with the poignant outside-looking-in view of women meeting in private homes....not hospitals.
I hope it was fun for this year's symposium participants to see glimpses of one another again : )
Take care all. I guess it is clear we need to keep walking and talking.....people are starting to listen.
Jaynie
I was one of the attendees at the symposium. The camera crew filmed for most of one day, so I was just a little disappointed to see that it was pared down to a few short minutes, because there were so many wonderful moments. But I am thankful that is was SOMETHING. I hope that this is only the beginning of getting the word out to women everywhere, whenever and wherever we can. February is heart month, and I encourage all of us to speak to as many women as we can about the issue of women and heart disease. If it takes a woman to woman approach, and that is key to saving lives, then I say let's go! Talk to your daughthers, your sisters, your mothers, your grandmothers, you girlfriends and your co-workers. Something as simple as "do you know the risk factors for heart disease" or "do you know the symptoms of a heart attack". Answers to these questions can be found at WomenHeart.org, of course - and from our doctors (hopefully). I've talked to several women since I returned and I am always amazed at how little many women know about heart disease. Of course I was one of these women not too many years ago. To add a twist to an old phrase...we are our sisters' keepers! Here's to all my heart sisters, and to a happy, healthy, 2009!
Nancy
I KNEW I'd forget! Geez, I wanted to see it. Maybe I'll find it online.
Oh my frustrating memory loss!

So glad I was able to catch it, but for those of you who didn't - it will be posted as a 'link' on the WomenHeart web page soon I believe.
It was good - the group pic was so fast I couldn't even find MYSELF and I know where I was standing! ha But, it's a start - and who knows what will jump start from that one little piece.
Carrie, you looked great and I wish I could have been there to cheer you on!
Lynn, Houston
I saw the clip on ABC News and thought it was great -- and WomenHeart's logo was visible. I haven't checked the ABC News Web site yet but it sure would be great if they have a link to the WomenHeart Web site.
I saw the story on ABC News tonite. It may have been short, but sure was sweet! Other media outlets should expand on stories like that. Education about heart disease can help so many women. Since I was diagnosed with CHF I've done a lot of research and sure wish I'd known a lot of things sooner.
Mayo grads use many ways to get the word out -- each of us using our strengths and personal contacts. Carrie's 1st event was in a home -- a place where she felt comfortable. ABC set out to look for an event from one of the 3 of us (that were interviewed), and this fit.
So far, I've spoken mostly to Weight Watcher groups (building on the relationship I have with my WW leader) and one-on-one to other women. This week and next, I will speak to 40-50 nurses who organize health-related activities in their churches. I'm making myself available to them to help them with their Feb. activities.
Ladies, we bring a real face to being a heart patient, and we do so with real passion and true emotion. Other women can identify with us because they know that we are just as human as they are. And we speak from our experiences, not from someone's idea of how it "might" feel.
My hope is that this story is just a start for WomenHeart!

The story on ABC was very good. I wish it had been given more time. Great job to all those who participated. I was very moved. It's amazing to me how little women know about heart disease. Thank you for all your efforts. We all need to get out there and spread the word. I try to pass along my story and information from Women Heart whenever I can. Take Care Chris
