Missing Aneurysm

I'm totally confused. Last November I was hospitalized for chest pains. They did an angiogram and found nothing had changed, but after the procedure I had horrible heart spasms. The doctor ordered a CT immediately. They came back with the results and found that I had a 4.5 thoracic aneurysm. The doctor decided to watch it for six months and have another CT done then.

Well, I had the follow up CT done a few days ago and got a call from my general GP saying that there's no aneurysm there.

My husband and son are concerned that this last test wasn't accurate and the one in the hospital was. My question for this great group is has anyone else experienced something like this?

Hi Dona,
What a fascinating post, I must admit I googled, there was plenty there but all far too technical for me to understand and nothing like your experience. I think in your shoes I'd go for one more scan, although I hope the first was the wrong one, or the aneurysm truly disappeared, which is fantastic! I'm sorry I can't help but the only thought I had was that there must have been a reason for your doctor choosing to wait six months and doing another scan, what was he expecting to happen?

Thanks Lidia. The reason they waited the first time was because supposedly it was only at 4.5 size and they're not serious until they're 6 or more. If in 6 months it would have increased then they would have made a decision if I would be operated on or not.

I'll see my cardiologist the end of this month. Like many on here I haven't had much faith in the medical system so that's why I turned to this great group for some guidance.

Hi Dona,

If you used the same scanning facility, it is entirely possible the aneurysm has receded, healed over in some way. Still a good idea to get 6 month scans to ensure it is truly gone bye bye : )

Hi Jaynie,

That's one of my family's concerns, the test was done in the hospital last November. This last test was done in another facility.

I was just curious if aneurysm can recede themselves and if anyone on here had had the same experience.

Dona,

They can become smaller or larger....once one is indentified, you need to keep a close watch on that location over time....because it indicates a weakness that could turn into rupture. Size can change suddenly, so you may want to try to avoid sudden strenuous movements until the next scan.
