keeping in touch with my sisters

hello my sisters, its been a while. I did not want to get in touch with you untill I had some new news. Well they say when it rains it pours and I am definetly one to feel this to be so true. My little cousin of 9 years old was killed tuesday night in Ladson, SC by a hit and run driver, To think I have to add this to my problems. I did apply for my unemployment and was denied. I appealed and have a phone hearing this coming tuesday, Please pray for me I get this. I went to social service and applied for medicaid, I ran out of my medicine, and cannot afford to buy anymore. I am waiting to hear from them on their decision. The repo man is looking for my car, but I really cannot do anything about that at this time, If they get it then oh well. I am glad for this site and the many encourageing letters my sisters write me. Bless you all and I will write again when I have more news.

I am so sorry to hear about your little cousin. I am guessing you are being denied unemployment because you cannot work yet? Check with Social Services again, and see if there is any kind of short term assistance you can qualify for! And you need to call your doctor and tell him/her that you have run out of medication and cannot afford to buy any. Most doctors have a good supply of samples,

You are in my prayers.

Calling the doc about meds is a great idea, if not, call your local hospital, ask for a patient advocate - they can help you do paperwork and get through the process of medicaid, they can also help you with the drug companies to get your meds for a reduced price, if not free. They can also refer you to a psychologist if you feel like you need help with everything you have on your plate.

I'm so sorry you're having to go through such a hard time, I'm so sorry for your loss too. Please take care of yourself, this too shall pass my friend, even though I know right now it doesn't feel like it. Know you are in prayers daily.
Hugs,
K

Hi, Survivor
I too am new to this site. My heart attack was almost 1 year ago, but feels like last week still. I'm trying to move ahead, but have many of the same problems as you, mostly financially. I read your first discussion & hope things are better. For sure try calling 211. My doctor gave me many meds when I first saw her with no insurance.

Take Care & Hang in There!!!

Dear survivor,
What a horrible tragedy to lose a child and especially by a cowardly hit and run driver. I hope you protect yourself from all the grief that accompanies such a senseless death. Step away at least for a few minutes if it gets to be too much.

Kristen is right about the patient advocate- call and see about your meds.

Unemployment may be hard to get but they had no right to fire you for having heart surgery

Take care,
Laura

Heart Survivor,
I am so sorry to hear about your cousin. I hope they find the driver soon. You might want to look www.pparx.org to see if you qualify for free or near free medications. Like others have said check with your doctor as mine has been giving me free Coreg samples for over half a year. Giant Eagle, Walmart and Target have many generic heart medications on their $4.00 list.

Regards,

Deb

Heart Survivor:

As Deb said, there are many generic heart meds available on the $4.00 lists of many retailers. Don't hesitate to ask your doctor if he can substitute ones on the list for ones you are on. I currently take 4 heart meds and both my blood pressure and cholesterol med are on the list. I have health insurance, but I also take 4 other meds so this really helps. The meds I am taking on the $4.00 list have given me fewer side effects than the pricier drugs I was on before. That was an added benefit. When I told my cardio that cost was a concern, they were more than willing to try something on the $4.00 list as long as I agreed to report any problems to them. I now ask during any doctor visit when I am prescribed meds if something on those lists will work as well as more expensive drugs. They are always very accomodating.

Please know that your family is in our prayers. Any life extinguished too soon is a loss of potential and a piece of the future. It is also a new guardian angel for all those whose lives he touched. Take care -

Dianna

Still thinking of you

Dear Heartsurvivor,

So sad to hear about your little cousin :-( I also hope they catch the SOB who did this.

But so happy to hear you are back with us and you are taking measures to get some assistance. Unfortunately, unemployment has a rule that you must be ready, willing, and available to work--NOW. That does not sound like your situation.

I suspect you do qualify for State medical assistance. It's only about $375/Mo (plus food stamps), but every little bit helps. You might also want to apply for SSD. The sooner the better. Use your unemployment denial as proof along with your medical records. Get on the horn with a Social Security attorney.

Thanks for the update and hope you are feeling better.

May the Blessings Be!

Sherrie

My thoughts and prayers are with you...

HS,
We can't stress enough to you the importance of taking your meds - your doctor should be willing and able to help. Don't put this off because these are essential to your health. Please call them first thing Monday morning and explain the problem.

Be strong,
Laura

Hello Heart Sister,

Know that the souls of the faithfully departed rest in peace. Your loved one is the safe care and keeping of our Father. I'm sure that young person made an amazing contribution to your family, and will always be with you all in spirit.

You may also contact the Salvation Army they may very well be able to assist you in your time of need. Additionally, Catholic Charities is another resource that you may be able to tap into. As well as the ministerial alliance in your town.

The pharmaceutical companies that manufacture the medication you are taking may also be able to assist you with your meds. The name of the manufacturer for your medication is listed on each bottle of medicine. You can go to their website for additional information in patient care services they may provide.

Another resource is for you to take your concerns to the pharmacy where you have your prescriptions filled. And, Wal-Mart has a new plan that all generic drugs are $4.00. And, yes, I fully understand, what a lack of funds means. Even $4.00 seems like thousands when there is no income coming in. But that too will change.

Also, should your heart health be at a particular stage, and type you may even be eligible for Social Security Disability. (contact www.ssa.gov).

I'll keep you and your concerns in prayer and believe that your breakthrough is now. You are not alone, believe it for is so!

Continued blessings are yours for the asking! Simply believe in the power within.

Dear Heart Survivor, So sorry to hear about your sweet little cousin. I add my sympathy to all the others and pray for God to give you strength to get through all of this.

You have received so much good advice there is nothing more that I can add but know that you are embraced by the women of this site with their love, knowledge and prayers....and that the power of prayer can be felt no matter how far the distance.

Make sure you continue to rest and take care of yourself and as many have said do not stop taking your meds...they are essential to your heart health. Please follow their advice.
Much concern for you dear heartsister. Sending Hugs and prayers your way. Ruth

Dear Survivor
Iapplied 2 - 3 times am so sorry to hear about the loss of your little cousin! What a senseless tragedy.I can only imagine how heavily burdened your poor heart is with all these troubles. Please know you and your family will be in my prayers that all of you will find peace and healing of your deep sorrow. It sounds like eveyone already gave you excellent advice for getting your meds. And don't give up on pursuing your insurance/financial concerns. People I know who experienced catastrophic illnesses ( Cancer, Heart disease etc. ) have applied 2 - 3 times before receiving benefits so don't give up! Stay strong and know you are not alone friend....Donna

Heart survivor,

None may know the time that God shall call us home, but in his house all are well. He reins over us and guards us daily. Know that your cousin is safe from all harm and is an angel in God's keep.

I'm am so sorry for all of your troubles. You are in my prayers as I know that life will workout for you in the long run. I'm praying for a quick relief for all of your troubles.

Wal-mart has a wondeful program for cheaper meds. I use them and it sure has helped me out. Keep trying and working on your SSD. It can take sometime. Do get your physician involved, they really can push things along.

I'll say a prayer for you tonight, asking that God make all things for your right.
I'm asking him to watch over you today and keep his loving arms around you each and everday.
He'll send his angel down to guard your soul, till you again may become whole.

You're in my prayers today and everday,
CJ
