Jaynie's Big Day - Survey

0 Recommendations

Hi Ladies,

Whether Jaynie knows it or not she has been such an inspiration to me here at my home away from home. I love reading her posts/comments and the articles she links us to.

I do a lot of knitting for enjoyment and stress relief. I was surfing last night and stumbled across a pattern for a very light (lacy) shawl. The name of the shawl made me immediately think of Jaynie and I smiled. The shawl is called "Mermaid's Net". It looks like a fish net and is worn down below the shoulders (probably 2 - 3 inches below the shoulders). When worn it looks like the wearer is a mermaid and happened across this piece of fish net on the ocean floor and wrapped it around her shoulders as an accessory.

I would dearly love to knit this shawl up for Jaynie as a gift from all of us here at Women Heart and give it to her for her "big day" to symbolize all the support, hugs, good wishes, etc Jaynie has shown us here at Women Heart. I would like the shawl to represent all of us here at Women Heart as in us being there (in spirit) with Jaynie with our "arms" wrapped around her in a hug. I know from reading other posts that many of my fellow sorority sisters here feel the same about Jaynie.

I just need some input on the color - Jaynie, your input is most important. I saw it made up in a greenish/blue yarn called "Sailor". I'm not sure that Jaynie would want to wear that color shawl for the event.

What do you think ladies?

Nasa pants has finally caught her in his net.

Anxiously awaiting color ideas,

AuntieMom

Auntie,

What a beautiful and touching thought. Yes... Janie deserves all the hugs from us. Personally she was there for me and still is today with or advise, and her humor.

As far as the color.... hmmmm now that depends on the color of her roots and nails that day. j/k
Maybe we need to know what color she will be wearing first.

Now theres a new topic.... what color will Jaynie pick?

Marie

Awww I LOVE it!!! Our beloved Mermaid would look beautiful in the shawl...then again that hot mama can rock anything ;D.
I agree with Marie, we'd have to know what color Jaynie's wearing...though I must admit my first thought was like a lite blue/green color...like the ocean in the caribean (see my avatar) but it really should match her outfit afterall we want mermaid to look extra hot that day ;D

Auntie, how wonderful, what a beautiful idea! These are the health benefits of blue and green in colour therapy, I think you've made the perfect choice!

Green
Green is a color that's thought to encourage emotional stability, purity and calmness. It's related to the heart chakra, so it's believed to help with emotional issues, such as love, forgiveness, trust and compassion. An imbalance in the heart chakra is associated with fear of relationships, mistrust, jealousy, isolation and insecurity.

Blue
Blue is related to the throat chakra and is said to be connected to the throat and lungs. It's thought to enhance verbal expression and communication, artistic expression and willpower. It's a calming color and is believed to help insomnia, anxiety, throat problems, high blood pressure, migraine and skin irritation.
Love and hugs, Lidia xx

Auntie Mom,

What an amazing thing to see when I logged on this morning....and very sweet. My room is painted a soothing pale sea blue green with white beadboard and silver/nickle accents. Have you made anything for your bird babies yet? I can picture them perched on your shoulder while you knit (smile).

Marie,
"As far as the color.... hmmmm now that depends on the color of her roots and nails that day. "

hahhaaa.....Gotta wash that gray away ya know....Nails translucent opalescent. (Toe nails are always bright red : )

Martha and Lydia,
You both got it spot on.....watery blue-greens. Grace-Lidia....fun chakra take on color therapy.

No date set yet. Thank you for your good wishes and Mermaid colors! : )

I think it is a fabulous idea and bless your heart for thinking of it. She has been such a tremendous help to this site!

Mickey perches on my left shoulder while I knit, Bashful hides half her body behind my head and Mischief is usually running around on my chest, arm or hand trying to catch the yarn. When Mischief gets close to it I stop knitting for a few seconds so he can look at it and then he wanders off (usually to my head). After I knit for a little while Mischief is down checking it out again - it must be the motion that intriques him. I spend a lot of time laughing while I knit now a days. It's very healthy for my soul in more ways than one! They had their wings clipped Saturday. I got a group discount because they were so well behaved. I'm a proud Momma! They can still fly, just can't circle the room 3 or 4 times and they can't land on the curtain rods or dive bomb me. I was just starting to get used to Kenai and Mischief flying straight at my face and at the last minute pulling up and landing on my head. It was getting hard to read the paper without a bird flying through the paper. McKinley startled Dad Friday night. Dad came around the corner and McKinley was doing his aerial exercises. Both Dad and McKinley happened to be on a collision course but McKinley (being younger) had quicker reflexes and landed on Dad's bald head. I know how the little feet feel on my haired head - I'm not sure how they felt on Dad's bald head but on the other hand Dad does let them sit on his head so it must not bother him too much.

Enough of my Momma bragging - I checked out the yarn and I really liked the color called "Reef", it's an aqua. The color "sailor" is a navy blue - I think the reef would be more appropriate for the function. I'm going to work some silver into it also.

You are going to look stunning and we will all be there wrapped around you in support and happiness.

AuntieMom

Auntiemom,

LOL!! "It was getting hard to read the paper without a bird flying through the paper." LOL

I do love your birdy antic descriptions....These stories would make such a charming children's book with funny illustrations.

Thank you for this amazing thing you are creating....It sounds so lovely. I'll think about the soothing colors while I'm back at the dentist tomorrow....Probably be away for a few days.

Happy knitting and kiss those babies for me!

Jaynie

Kisses they are good at, hugs, well they aren't too excited about my hand covering them and holding them to my chest while I give them hugs and kisses but they are getting better about it. They give kisses more freely if they are sitting on my shoulder and I turn my heading saying "Can I have a kiss?"

Good luck at the dentist tomorrow - I'll be thinking about you.

Auntie Mom

Thank You, Auntie Mom,

You are doing a great thing, here. We are all behind you, knowing you'll make a great shawl that Jaynie will embrace and feel our "hugs".

Jaynie, I hope you'll feel the love sent to you.

We all wish we could be there, Auntie Mom's given us a way, wear it and most importantly, FEEL IT!

Peggy

"My room is painted a soothing pale sea blue green with white beadboard and silver/nickle accents."

I totally pictured you having a room like that! You're a woman after my own soul mermaid!

((HUGS))
Martha

Auntie Mom,

How wonderful. You are very sweet to think of this. I think eveyone on this site loves Jaynie, she is always there for us. You will have to figure out a way for us all to see your finished product. Then Mrs. Mermaid will have to show us a picture of her wearing it. The shaw sounds so beautiful that I can't wait to see it. I just learned to crochet this fall. I am progressing in skill. I made scarfs for my granddaughters and daughter-in-law and told them each time they wear them to think of me giving them a hug.

Warm Regards,

Rose

Jaynie's hugs is almost done. It should be done by Weds. or Thurs. I'll take pictures but I don't think they will do the color justice. The green color will show up nicely but the little strand of blue/silver won't show up well. It's very subtle just enough to give it a little zip and make it eye catching. Kind of like the sun twinkling on the mermaid's tail.

I should be able to mail it by Saturday. So ... Miss Mermaid if you would be so kind as to shoot me your mailing address I will pop it in the mail to you on Saturday.

I'm really pleased with how it is coming out - the color combination is really striking and very appropriate for the mermaid.

AuntieMom

Put my name on the list! I'm a little late reading this. Guess it was begun during Jan when I was into my own "event" and recovery.

Anyway, what a great idea and what wonderful descriptions of your birds and their antics and personalities! They must be so much fun. I hate to ask an indelicate question = but do they 'poop' all over the house? My Mom and Dad had a parakeet for a few years after I left home and he flew all over the house - but I can't remember about THAT part. lol Being a pet lover and having cats and dogs, doubt that birds will ever enter our lives, but one never knows!

Jaynie - this is great for you and what a gift YOU are to ALL of us!
Lynn

AuntieMom,

Just found this post also...what a lovely idea! Hope it gets there in time for her big event.

From a fellow knitter,
Lisa

Good afternoon ladies,

It got there in time for the big event !!! I just checked the tracking number and it was signed for by the Mermaid herself at 11:16 am today.

I'm going to try really, really hard tonight to upload the picture that I took of it for you all to see. The picture doesn't really pick up the shimmery blue but it is there. If the sun was out I'll bet she looked gourgeous.

Lisa - it was just a simmple k2 tog, yo on each row but with size 35 needles. It came out looking exactly like a fish net. The original pattern was just a simple garter stitch on size 17 needles. It was completely inappropriate for what I wanted for our Jaynie. So I created my own thing ( a mermaid net) !!!

I so glad that it got there in time.

AuntieMom

My gosh, I've missed something! I'm a knitter, and what is Jaynie's big day? I thought I was keeping current, but guess not!

Tell me, tell me! She is such an asset to our board!

As of yesterday at approximately 1:00 pm we have to share Jaynie with Mr. Nasa Pants. Our Jaynie is now Mrs. Nasa Pants.

As a symbol of all our love, support and thanks for being there for all of us I knit a Mermaid Net Shawl for her to wear at her wedding. The shawl symbolizes us standing right there beside and behind her with our arms wrapped around her in support and joy.

I used a green worsted from Knit Picks that is called "Shimmer" the particular shade that I used is "Reef" it's a teal greenish color. There wasn't enough blue in it to suit my vision so I scouted around a little bit at Webs and came up with a very thin shimmery blue and silver thread, about the same gauge as embroidery floss. I think they referred to what I got as Flux? I used size 35 needles and just did a k2 tog, yo across the row. Doing it for every row, till I ran out of yarn.

Jaynie had asked that I send her some of my cockatiels feathers for good luck so I put those in one of those paper CD sleeves. No bird was harmed in the feather collecting. All feathers sent were harvested from the area around the birds cage or from their flight patterns.

I know that I have said this many, many times before but I am still working on uploading the picture of the shawl. I'm not a technical person when it comes to that type stuff plus I think my computer may not have enough something or other (ram, bytes, whatever).

AuntieMom

AuntieMom,

Looked up the color of yarn in my Knit Picks catalog.....absolutely beautiful! Bet the added silver thread was just a magical touch . Can't wait to see the pictures. Wish you could have seen her face when she opened it. I'm sure she cried.
