High bp at night! Is it panic or problem?

Well I know where to come for some good honest answers when I need help! Now I would like to know if anyones bp rises at night yesterday I had a great day! No problem with bp last night! Everything was great and today also, then about 8pm I start to the store and felt like it was kind of high so I checked it at the bp station 138/94, I said well I have not had my norvas tonight, and maybe if I walk it will get better. so got a few things and checked it again 148/101!! I of course I just freaked! Had to check myself out because lines were long! I could not tell you how much it was or how I got home in such a panic! Which is the worst thing we can do you know, it only makes it go higher! I came home and took my norvas! Laid down and thought peaceful things! My husband knew something was wrong by my panic look on my face! Bless his heart he has been through so much with me! Anyway it went back down! but this has happened several times in the last couple of weeks only at night! So ladies what do you think! Could it be some kind of panic attacks I am having or a problem. And I take it in both arms and sometimes it is about the same and then again it can be as much as 15 point off on the top number, and 10 on the bottom. So help me try to understand this problem! I took fluid pills a few days last week and it went away. But I have watched my salt and diet this week! Is it diet, panic, a unknown problem, stroke signs, heart attack signs, or is it all in my mind? Just took it and left arm is 127/81 hb 61, right arm 121/80 hb 66 so I guess I can sleep :) Thanks ahead of time!

First off, I want to tell you I have REALLY been there. I have my own heart monitor at home and got into the habit of checking it all the time. Probably because I was scared. Anyway, A BP of 148-101 is not serious. That can be just from going from sitting in the car to walking. And yes, being in between meds can make a huge difference. I take Imdur which is a time released med, and I take metoprolol 2 times a day. If I forget to take it in the morning I can tell by the time I get to the end of the block. I also know what panic and worry can do. It has cost me alot of money and unneeded medical tests and trips to the ER. I have had heart disease for 12 years. 2 heart attacks and 11 angiograms. Several stents... If I were you, I would mention it to my Dr. next time I see her or him. It may just be you need a little Med adjustment. If this higher BP also comes with pain, be a little more aggressive and get help sooner. I think you will hear from alot of us that your perdicament is pretty normal. A few weeks ago I got a pain in my chest area and just the worry caused my BP which is normally 110/80 to go up to 185/96. It stayed that high most of the evening. I fell asleep worrying close to dawn but my BP was back down and all was well with the world. Its hard to relax when you are worried but once you figure out what is happening it is easier. If you ever want to talk about it e-mail me and I will give you my phone number. Often times it helps just to talk. You can reach me at smokefreeme1@juno.com. Best of luck to you... Diane

How long have you been on the Norvasc? It's possible you're becoming tolerant to it, or you might need to adjust the time of day you take it, or the dose, but give the doc a jingle and let them know. Do you take anything else for the PB? I take 3 things, and occasionally it will shoot up. Like you said, panic is the worst thing you can do - will only make it rise more, along with your heart rate. Try to take some deep breaths, leave the doc a message, note when it's happened before, what the numbers were, etc. Keep us posted!
Hugs,
K
