Generic Cardizem

0 Recommendations

Cardizem LA 360 mg costs about $125.00 per month for 30 tabs. It has no generic form.
There is a Cardizem CD generic 120mg costing $5.00 per month for 90 pills. Taking 3 of them at once, of course, is the same mg dose, but is it the same response? Would it be worth it to switch? Would it be safe ? Doc told me there was a generic for LA but not true. Any suggestions?

Dear AlamoOwl,

That cost is rediculous isn't it. Sometimes, the limitations on generic productions is a result of a new copyright or patent, that is not released to generic until it has been out a certain contracted amount of time. It might have some quality in the mgs the other does not....I am glad you are proactive.

If you don't trust your doctor's advice then the advice you get here is good to use as research to go back to your doctor. Also, reading up on the drug is good... Also, if you go to a big box pharmacy, talk to the pharmacist, they usually have printout information that accompanies each drug that they pull off of the computer, and then go back to your doctor to make your case.

Best...

Not sure what you take the Cardizem for, but I agree with Kardia. Talking to your pharmacist should give you some excellent input. If you have 1 pharmacy you use for all your meds, your pharmacist will know your medical background and can help you decide if you can make a switch.

I take the generic of Cardizem CD for coronary artery spasms/Prinzmetal's angina and to help boost my Lisinopril for better blood pressure control. I have never had any problems with this medication. It has given me great control, for the most part, over my spasms.

Your pharmacist says no to LA generic? Get another pharmacy.

There is one and it's called Dilitiazem Long Acting 180mg (Equivalent of Cardizem Long Acting 180mg). You cannot substitute CD (Controlled dose) with LA (long acting).
