Fatique and Stent procedures

0 Recommendations

Okay so I am a whirlwind by nature...but this second stent procedure has left me dragging everyday. I need to nap or rest most days by 3:00. Location is on the LAD vs the first blockage was located on the circumflex. All in all ten months since the first procedure and almost a month since the second....

Eating, exercising and taking supplements and the heart disease cocktail...any suggestions would be welcome, maybe they make a pill for women with heart disease for energy!

Hello Clematis
I too have a stent implanted in the LAD. I supect our fatigue level depends on a number of factors: if you had an actual heart attack prior to the angioplasty, or how much heart muscle/valve damage occurred if any, or if your heart meds have side effects that include fatigue. I would also look at depression as a possible culprit too - happens in up to 65% of female heart patients but apparently treated in fewer than 10%!

Good luck...
XOXOXO

Thanks for the response- no heart attack, damage, or med change. Just dragging throughout my day which is filled with activities. I have heard the complete opposite in regards to depression, many women are over diagnosed for symptoms unrelated to depression. Do you recall the source of your data?

thanks, Deb

I had two stents on 6/6/08, one in left circumflex and one in the LAD. Exhaustion was unbelievable. Took a nap every day by 3pm also. It has been a year and still have times of exhaustion (of course cleaning out the garage and shed in the Texas summer time heat might be part of the problem =). Hope it gets better for you. I noticed an improvement when I changed to Crestor from previous cholesterol drug (can't remember name as my mind is a little duller that before.)

Good luck!

Hi Clematis, nowadays my first thought is always 'meds' I may be totally wrong in your case but sometimes the balance just doesn't work and needs to be adjusted. I can't begin to describe how much better life is for me since my meds were sorted, before, life was like walking through treacle. My weariness just crept up on me, at first I felt fine but several months down the line I just felt weaker and weaker. I started by checking the effects of each drug, then the effects of drugs when combined, you'd be amazed.
I hope you feel better soon!

well. sounds like we have had similiar stent procedures. My fatigue is not "normal" for my personality. Only med change since the last stent is the isosorbide mononitrate which I take prior to bed, because of the increase of angina while resting. Couple of things-someone mentioned that angina does exhaust your body and secondly, that maybe I have Prinzmetal angina which happens to women during rest. I don't anticipate my cardiologist helping to determine either of these. He just looks and me and says "he can't explain it..." and maybe I should check with my GP for GI issues. Forget that since this has all happened the last month since my stent on May 21.

I keep trucking, since I run a B&B, and have lot's to do each day. Nap isn't a a choice its a necessity since I begin yawning after about 1:00pm. Yesterday hubby checked on me twice since I slept for 3 hours after a 4 hour shopping spree!

Thanks

I will re visit the med list and consult with my pharm. since he has been a dream...

4 1/2 years later and I am still waking and wondering what time the fatigue will set in. I have gone to the minimum does on the toporol which was some what effective for a time. If I had a dime for every time I said to all my docs "you don't understand, this isn't me" I was never the depressed one even though it ran in my family. But as time went by I realized that I can't understand how I couldn't be depressed. I had a major trama with my dissection!
I also had trouble with cholesterol meds after taking them for quite some time. Sometimes I just sit down and close my eyes for ten minutes and that can help allot. Good luck and hang in there!

I had an LAD three years back ,and on med +exercise and diet and so far ok ,about depression ,just may be to do with some hormonal imbalance ,I heard about it ,just check with your doctor

I also am dragging by mid afternoon. I had 2 stents put in on may 1st...I do agree that the medication cocktails we take have a definate effect on us, at least until our bodies get used to them. I had asked my doctor at my first checkup if i can take some meds at night instead....but, the answer was no.....so i just keep pushing through those afternoon hours at work....and hope i don't fall asleep at my desk....

I guess we're all different. I have 4 stents and there are days when my kids can't keep up with me, and then there are days when there's nothing there. I have learned to go with the flow. It's a waste of time for me to do otherwise, and if I don't obey my body I just get depressed.

Just reading about the fatique encouraged me and somehow knowing that I'm 'not the only one' crashing does help a little. The exhaustion i overwhelming as I'm so used to being on the go. I've had 3 angioplasty's in a year with a total of 7 stents, the usual med cocktail and unstable angina so I'm at least able to get through the day wearing a nitro patch for at least 12 hours. I'm sure some depression is creeping in as the tears flow easily at times. I'm one of those who was a little shocked at finding out I'd had a heart attack a few years ago that went undetected or more likely 'ignored'. I'm bent and determined to keep a stiff upper lip which will go with everything else that just gets stiffer and stiffer (I don't see eye to eye with Lipitor and we may have to part ways if these muscle problems don't subside). I'm so glad I found this group. I was looking for a Canadian group then laughed when I realized that ....heart disease is heart disease and it doesn't seem to care if your Cdn. or American. Thanks for the great posts and the links to some great reading.
