Does anyone know of a Cardiologist that is also Nutritionist/Naturopath

1 Recommendation

I am looking for a Doctor with both ends of the spectrum. Cardiologist and Nutritionist and or Naturopath. I have been using them separately and they don't talk which makes things a little difficult. Like having heart failure isn't difficult enough. I was wondering if any women out there has a Dr. like that and where he or she is located and does it work for them. I live in the Pacific NW Washington state, but I am willing to travel if they are good. Because I believe that nutrition can heal just as well as traditional medicine. Hope this can help other too. Even if we can help to combat the side effects from the traditional meds.
Thanks

Check out Dr. Decker Weiss. He is a naturopathic cardiologist. Professionally qualified in both fields. He works out of the Arizona Heart Hospital. I highly recommend his book titled "The Weiss Method"

Here's some more info:

Good luck!

Anyone from the Nashville area?
I am looking for a compasionate, caring, good listener, cardiologist.

I use to live in Spokane, WA my Cardiologist name is Philip Huber, MD he is with Spokane Cardology clinic, He is fanastic and he will put you in the right direction, He is a very caring, compasionate, and he listens to you, and he thinks outside of the box.
This man literally saved my life, I did not fit the profile of a normal heart patient, I have low bp, low heart rate, and I am not over weight, and on Sept 18, 2004 I went out of my house in a back of an ambulance with a heart attack, and then they were slowly pulling me off the meds to send me home and the pain came back, so off to having a heart cath, and after they had put 2/3 of the dye in, they stop the heart cath and off to emergency surgery. he did a triple by pass, and found that I had a arota twisted disection, Had I had a different cardiologist I would not be here. he did not disregard the signs. as other cardiologist would have.

I now live in Tn and was seeing another cardologist , who was a quack and I recently fired him, after going back to Spokane and seeing Dr. Huber. I told him he is my cardiologist.

Sorry for getting off the subject. Dr Huber is wonderful. If you decide to meet with him. Tell him Barbara Allen Says HI

I also have been looking for the same type of care. I have an appointment with John W. Zamarra in Fullerton CA 1001 E Chapman Ave Fullerton, CA 92831-3851 - (714) 871-5200 his website says it all I have an appointment with him next week. He believes in holistic treatments as well as traditional methods. I will update after my appointment

Deae Iheart,

Do a search of this web site and you will find threads pertaining to L-arginine and L-carnatine.

May the Blessings Be!

Sherrie

Okay, next time I will see Dr. Shurman I will say hi from Rudy and will report back to you. I will see him soon probably, since I need an event monitor. I will not have an appointment but I usually get to see him somehow anyway.

What book did you write? He is such in incredible personality besides his medical degree and has so many interests in all kinds of subjects.

I do have to say, I believe he loves Bellingham but really does not like other medical professionals he practice with.

One day he said how do you like the literature in the office and I said well, it could use some improvement and suggested some reading to him. He said I cannot put any of these magazines here they are all conservatives I work with.

We both laughed,

Take care, Vrolijk

That's cool to meet another Dr. Shurman patient. He even wrote the introduction to a book I wrote several years ago. He's a great guy. If you ever think of it, tell him Rudy says, "hi"!
Best, Rudy

Hi, Rudywg

I have doctor Shurman as my cardiologist and I do believe he is a fantastic doctor!! He always listens and also listens to and gives some advice about alternatives and health foods. The problem is that I do believe that besides one other doctor at North Cascade cardiology he is an exception. If Doctor Shurman is not in his office or Dr. Beglin is not in you have to deal with the other doctors who all seem to have bad bed site manners.... and I am not the only one that is complaining about this problem..... I will not stop seeing him until I move...As there are very few choices her in Washington especially North of Seattle.

But my intentions are to move to another state because of the very few good doctors we have here in Washington State…

Thank you, Vrolijk

My email is kpmanganaro@comcast.net. You can also make me a friend.

Kathi

arizonal -thanks for the information on L-Arginine. Do you know anything about taking L-Arginine and l-carnitine together? I would also like to find a doctor that could council a person with something beside drugs. I am in the Jacksonville, Florida area. You seem to very well read in this direction. How does one e-mail you. I would very much like you input.

Thank you all for the input. I will be calling and going by some to find out if they are suited for my care.

I so appreciated you all.
Laura

Another resource: Dr. Joel Fuhrman's book "Eat to Live" is excellent. Packed with information. I get his e-news and he offers seminars throughout the year. His website: www.drfuhrman.com is where you can find all kinds of information. I suggest you look into that, too.
Another book which I recommend to anyone who needs to make dietary changes is: The Beck Diet Solution. This book does not recommend or advocate for a particular diet, rather, it offers behavioral insights and suggestions which can help you make eating changes. Very good at getting into the whys and hows of taking control of your eating.
Wishing you the best, Rudy

I checked my resources and was not able to find a cardio in Kentucky. I even went to emailed Dr. Sinatra's staff , but they don't have anyone that they would personally recommend at this time. I tried putting in a search for
ACAM.org for myself before, but wasn't able to find a cardio section. ACAM is the American College of Advancement for Medicine. Sorry

Kathi

Hi Thanks everyone, Kathi thanks for all the info, I have Dr. Sinatra's book and signed up for his newletter, he is having a seminar in Las Vegas in Oct. Hope I am well enough to go. I have my list of dr's from you all and going to start calling and see what I find out. This is so cool. Thanks all for the response.
Be Well
Laura

How does one do research to find this type of doctor? I'd love to have one myself. I have had the seperate cardio and naturopath. It is difficult when they do not agree with each other or even communicate. I live in KY. Lexington is my closest city. Can any one help?

I love the idea of integrating both cardiology and holistic medicine and I hope K can find someone for you. I agree with you that nutrition is a huge part of the equation.
If K's not able to find someone, the next question is "why don't they talk?" Sometimes that problem is an ego or a stubborn thing, sometimes it's more a time issue or a lack of clear communication channels.
I get my care through a team of physicians that I've told, "this will only work if you're a team player." I love my docs, but it's been a journey to find the best, both skill wise and attitude wise. On more routine items, I might be the vehicle to make sure info is getting from one to another. It's also important to have a relationship with the doc's PA, assistant, nurse or whoever the doctor tells you is a good addition to the team.
One of my all time favorite docs relocated to your area several years ago. It was a huge loss for me and our whole state. This guy is brilliant and he's also one of the wisest and most compassionate docs I've ever had. And I've been a heart patient all my life. If you're open to considering changes, you may want to give him a try.
His name is Dr. Alan Shurman

Thanks for the vote of confidence Peg... so your daughter is interested in holistic medicine???? Wonderful!! The mind body and spirit all work together............. It's amazing what laughter can do.
I have read that it has cured cancer in some people .....when they spent part of every day laughing.

K

Laura, integrative cardiologists are difficult to find,I know because I have researched. However in your area there is the Scripps Center for Integrative medicine in California. Mimi Guarneri is the founder and medical director. She wrote " The Heart Speaks" which is an excellent book. She sees the heart as a multilayered, complex organ possessing intelligence, memory and decision making abilities independent from the mind.........and that healing the heart can have more to do with healing the mind and soul than we ever knew. Maybe what you need????

There is Dr. Jonathan Wright in Washington State. He is not a cardiologist, BUT a brilliant man. I believe he is in Tacomah Washington and has a WONDERFUL clinic. Maybe there is a cardiologist on board. I receive his emails on a daily basis. He is on the cutting edge of everything and I have read his information for years and years. If there is a problem with anything, he usually gets to the bottom of it.

Then there are books by Dr. Stephen Sinatra. He has since retired. One that I refer to all the time is .......The Sinatra Solution Metabolic Cardiology. He uses the supplements
CoQ10, magnesium, l-carnitine and D-Ribose.He says the synergistic combination of these energy supplying nutrients maximizes the amount of oxygen that the heart and skeletal muscle can extract from the blood by accelerating the rate at which cells convert nutrients to energy. In his book he specifically outlines a different protocol using these supplements for :

1.age -management program

2.high blood pressure

3.stable angina

4.cardiac arrythmia, preventionof premature cintractions, oremature atrial contractions and intermittent atrial fibrillation

5.congestive heart failure

6.severe congestive heart failure, dilated cardiomyopathy, patients awaiting heart transplantation

7mitral valve prolapse

8.fibro, CFS or mitochondrial cytopathies

9Syndrome X, insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes

10a program for professional or worl class atheletes

11couch potato program

So I hope I have helped somewhat. Please privately email me as a friend or at comcast. I would love to talk with you at length about what your different doctors are telling you. Of course they are going to tell you different things and it CAN be frustrating. Believe me, I have butt heads with the original emergent cardiologist that took care of me on 1-30-08. But I have been in this since 1987. I have been severely ill and gotten myself better through research and seeking out knowledgeable individuals when regular allopathic medicine wasn't able to do so. I believe there is a time for medicine and a time for supplements and the use of both when necessary. It isn't an all or nothing thing. It depends on your particular case. But I do know that you need to be up on everything to get yourself well.

Love ya,
K

heart39 thanks for the input
