Didn't do so well

at cardiac rehab Friday. I had to put 0 elevation on the treadmill and slow it down. I was so short of breath. I had also gained 3# in 2 days. Of course the people there wanted me to call the doctor, so I did. He had ordered a BMP and chest xray the week before anyway and i hadn't heard from them so I called. I of course talked to the nurse, told her about the wt. gain, the leg swelling, the shortness of breath.... and she called the doctor. He said, it doesn't sound like CHF but go ahead and try the diuretic anyway. but go to my family doctor for follow up. If it isn't directly cardiac related, I don't think he wants anything to do with whatever I have going on. Do they forget that the body works as a whole, not just it parts?
I know I have other issues that can play into all of this, namely asthma and perimenopause. I was also ovulating this week and wonder how much that played into this. I wish there was a doctor that was well versed in our whole system and how it integrates. I don't know that I have ever found that. Maybe someday.
Anyone else develop CHF after a heart attack? What did you deal with at the beginning? What kind of symptoms did you have. I have taken care of many patients with CHF, but I don't know much about it soon after a heart attack.
BTW, my peak flow dropped some and my BMP was 118 and they said my chest x-ray showed no acute cardiopulmonary problems. But of course the BMP was drawn the week before. Who knows. Taking it day by day. But the breathing problems can be rather annoying. Just walking across the parking lot to church left me very winded. Maybe when I have the stress test it will give us a better idea of what is going on.
Thanks for listening.

Believe it or not I was discharged from the hospital with mild CHF. I was in the hospital due to my heart attack and cardiac cath. I told the discharging doctor that I was having trouble breathing and he told me it was from having stopped smoking. Three days later I was in my primary care's office saying "When I lay down to sleep I feel like I'm drowning." He sent me for a chest x-ray and told me to start taking my diuretic for two weeks. Chest x-ray came back chronic CHF.

You have to keep fighting the doctor's for your health and life. I'll say it again You HAVE to keep fighting the doctor's (don't accept being brushed off) your LIFE depends on you standing your ground!

I read your post last night and I have been thinking about you since...

What part of shortness of breath and swelling of the ankles ISN'T a sympyom of CHF? You call that cardiologist again and insist that he see you! And then you find another one--one who will listen. Honestly, we (women) have to do everything!! :)

I too was dischard with mild CHF and my first few times at rehab were rough. The treadmill always made me sweat.I started gaining weight at an alarming rate and when it got to 8 pounds in 3 days I called my cardiologist who put me on a diuretic. He did not want to see my bloated body or my swollen ankles. He never does.Trying to get a hold of him means 3 days waiting for a phone call.I am looking for a new one now.Hopefully one that will listen and LOOK at me before saying "well yeah you have congestive heart failure you know."

Ugg...these posts get me so riled up I can't tell you. CHF is a cardiac problem and a cardiac doctor should be seeing you and helping you to manage this. There are many, many things you can do when you have CHF to reduce the swelling and problems you are talking about. You had a heart attack and a cardiac doctor should be managing you for that as well. Even medication changes can help. Please find another cardiologist that will listen to you and help you with your valid and significant concerns. Please keep me posted.

It is so frustrating when our Dr.s just dismiss us.
I had been having a heavy feeling in my chest and trouble breathing and elevated bp.I went to my primary ,who called my cardiologist...go to e.r. If I had a nickle for everytime they say that, I could pay for my bypass with cash!!They immediatly think everything is heart related.
After trying on my own to eliminate things,I realized that the pharmacy had given me a stronger dose of crestor.I,m very sensative to statins and such.I went back to normal dose and.....low and behold the symptoms ceased.
Stick with your gut feelings...you are your best Dr about how your body feels.
