I have a GI specialist as a client, and he wrote a beautiful letter of recommendation for this year's Mayo symposium (not sure if I'm selected yet, but the fingers are still crossed!! -- so excuse the typos!! LOL) --

We were discussing the Mayo symposium and the fact that we won't know anything until after August 7th. He mentioned that it would be nice if I was selected, because he has two female patients currently that he things have heart issues but they refuse to see a cardiologist. They are convinced that their symptoms are due to GI issues and not heart because they're too young or something....he said it would be great if he had me to call on to discuss some of the heart issues with them that I've gone through, and if it was in an official capacity of WomenHeart, that would be even better........

Just thought I'd share with you that there ARE some physicians who are in the 21st century as far as heart issues in women (not sure about those women, but....), and who don't dismiss women was "crazy" or "anxious" just because the physician cannot find anything wrong with them.......there may be some slight progress, you think?

Still crossing fingers here......

I'm really okay if I'm not selected this year -- but I will try again!! Can't get rid of me that easily!! HA HA

I suppose we can't edit our posts --

He THINKS -- not he THINGS........grrrrr...I hate typos in my own posts!!! LOL

Dana again.

Hi Dana,
here's my editing tip.

select all the text in your post and hit "copy" .... then delete your post.

THEN start a new post and "paste" your text into the new box.

You can then edit all those typos that drive us crazy.

good luck with the symposium process - you would be a true asset if you were recognized officially, but you're already invaluable here.

my heartfelt best,
Laura

Thanks Laura. I didn't know we could delete a post. I'm going to the board to delete the mistake I made 5 minutes ago!

Brilliant!! Brilliant!!

Thanks for the tip. I knew there had to be a way!

Dana

Dana, what a great doctor you have! Imagine a doc saying he'd like to refer his patients to another patient! And having that Mayo Clinic training adds credibility that would amaze you - just the name opens doors that would not be open at all to an average heart attack survivor. For me, it has led to invitations to speak to Cardiology and ER staff education days that I know for sure would never have happened without that Mayo Clinic background.

I can totally understand those two women and their denial of possible heart disease. Denial is a very powerful force!!

But this also illustrates that, despite the stories you may read here, it's not always the idiot doctor who misses a cardiac diagnosis. Women MUST come forward in the first place, and as in your story, MUST accept their doctors' referrals to cardiologists. We have to be accountable for our own decisions in cases like these.

Thanks for this uplifting story!! Great way to start the day - and good luck with the symposium acceptance.

XOXOXO
