Cholesterol Levels - What should they be post MI?

0 Recommendations

Hi Heart Sisters,

I know I have read some where that cholesterol levels for post MI people should be lower than what is recommended for the average non-MI person. But I can't find that info and my cardiologist cancelled my appt. tomorrow.

I am really upset. I was 102 so she changed my Lipitor from 80 t 40 mg. Well, just got the results today and I was 162. I know this is still okay but I am walking around with a blocked LAD (50-60%) and I really liked the 102#.

I will be honest, I fell off my vegan wagon after a trip a few weeks ago. I have since gained 10 pounds, have been eating sugar, and have been a bit of a slug, although I am back in rehab this week. But it looks like I screwed myself. I was turning 38 on 10/30 and really made it into a "birthday month" and fell off the wagon with my choices and now I am feeling awful about it.

I am afraid she will up my Lipitor and I am really upset.

Just curious about others who are walking around with moderate blockages...how are your levels?

Thanks for sharing. I have sunken down once again...

Sincerely,
GraceAnn

I've been told LDL at 75 or lower
made 81 last week
adding fish oil caps to the mix per Dr.
LDL is the focus
triglicerydes also

don't look back at how you did last month
look at today
What good choices will you make today?
You can ponder this during your workout :-)

Your total cholestrol is important but your ratio from everything I've been told by my Dr.'s is what is really important. Ratio being good (HDL) to bad (LDL) if your good is at least 60 or more then it puts you at a much lower risk because the good supposedly washes away the bad. Hope this helps.

I just got a copy of my most recent lab work and it says the reference range is:

TOTAL CHOLESTEROL 125 - 200
HDL CHOLESTEROL GREATER THAN OR = 46
TRIGLYCERIDES LESS THAN 150
LDL-CHOLESTEROL LESS THAN 130

Desireable range LESS THAN 100 MG/DL for patients with CHD or diabetes and LESS THAN 70 MG/DL for diabetic patients with known heart disease.

CHOLESTEROL/HDLC RATIO LESS THAN OR = 5.0
