Chest pain during ovulation

0 Recommendations

I had a spontaneous dissection of my LAD coronary artery 6 mos ago. I am on heart meds as a result because the artery was too small to stent. Things have gone fairly well since then except I get pain in my right chest and across my back. I have been noticing that this pain only appears when I'm ovulating or on my second day of my period. It is really bad on the first day of ovulation and the pain decreases as the week goes on. Does anyone else have this issue?

Yes! I also have chest pains when ovulating. I don't get it every month, but last month it was quite alarming. I made appts. with my doctors and all my tests (hormones/heart) came back normal. ??? I feel there is a definite connection between our hormones and chest pains. It is very scary because I feel like I am going to dissect again. Have you consulted with your doctor yet?

I'm glad that I am not alone!

Be well,
Christine

Hi Emma,
My SCAD MI happened on the second day of my period. There is something going on there. It's only been a month, so I am not sure what will happen when I am ovulating. Will get back to you if I notice anything.

Thanks for sharing this information ladies. I am somewhere in the land of menopause, at 52, with erratic periods, which means that after my cardiac event 6 weeks ago, I now suddenly start a new cycle after not having one for about 3 months, and guess what, chest pains on the second day of my period! - and the PMS was the worst I've ever had, with the mood swings, extreme fatigue, spacey feeling, light-headedness, and excess fluid retention for the past two weeks - although at the time I did not realize it was being caused by my menstrual cycle as I was convinced I was done for good with all of that - no such luck - with CHF, having this prolonged PMS with that amount of swelling is a real drag. My cardio told me I could double up on the Lasix premenstrually - if I can figure out for sure when it's happening next time! My abdomen was so swollen up it looked like I was carrying twins! Now thank goodness it is shrinking down enough for me to at least fit into my fat clothes again....gosh, if it's not one thing, it's another - just one more example of 'normal' symptoms mimicking heart disease symptoms. I told my doc that I never worried about rapid weight gain in the past because every month I'd retain 5 to 7 pounds of fluid with my PMS! Then lose it for a couple of weeks, then regain it - hence, having to have two wardrobes, my "regular clothes" and my "fat clothes." Now I'm resigned to wearing the fat clothes, but I start to complain when I can't get those zipped up either.....lol

Hi...There is a definate connection as I had a dissection 3 years ago on day 2 of cycle. Once cycle resumed I had debilitating pain (later diagnosed as Prinzmetal Angina via ergonovine at Cleveland Clinic.) Took months and many doctors to maintain cyclicity of hormones. Finally relief after going on YAZ and not getting period (I don't take fake pills I just start a new pack. Keep a log- it is interesting to see overlaps etc.

Good Luck-
Sharon

Hi emma,

Same here. Had massive HA at 41 during ovulation...Ovulation continues to be the hardest time of the month for me. I'm now 54 and still having a tough time...That is when my chest feels absolutely shrink wrapped, constrictions and spasms are the sharpest, anxiety bad. Pms brings another set of fun symptoms...2 liter water weight gain which causes very blurry vision for days until it releases (and then I don't even need glasses at all). Had a partial hysterectomy at 48 to keep my ovaries in case they helped lessen the shock of perimenopause transitions. Looks like they have no intention of slowing down much. sheesh (smile) How long does this go on for cryin out loud?

Have you taken the time to chart your symptoms for several months running? I did that and it really helped me put my health profile in a larger perspective....I came to see that hormones were driving much of the discomfort and learned when to gear up for specific times of the month to get through those holy terror days. I'm still here 13 years out. I think my hormones are properly terrified of me now : ) LOL

I'm guessing you are aware that birth control pills and HRT are dangerous to heart problem girls? If you add smoking to these it seals the deal rather swiftly.

take care,
Jaynie

I had my heart attack on day 2 of my period. I always felt that there was a connection since I was 51 and near menopause. I really believed it had something to do with hormones. After reading all of these posts I am sure I was right. I was not on hormone treatment so I guess it has something with our natural hormones.
