Cardizem and Vytorin

0 Recommendations

Hi,
Are any of you ladies on Cardizem and Vytorin? My cardiologist recently switched me to Vytorin as a cholesterol lowering med. I am also on Cardizem for my coronary artery spasms. When I went to get the prescription filled yesterday, the pharmacist at CVS said that their computer system is rejecting my fill of the Cardizem, because the two drugs have a serious interaction. I was only able to beg for a few pills to get me through today, while the pharmacists checks into the problem further. I know that Cardizem and statins both metabolize through the liver, and that's obviously not great long term. But we don't have much choice if we have high cholesterol and spasms, do we?
Any advice or confirmation from others that take these two meds?
Thanks!
Sharon

Hey Scott,

I an currently on Vytorin, but is no longer taking Cardizem. I have had problems with the pharmacist identifying drugs that may have a negative interaction together. It is great that our pharmacists are taking care of us like that. Because of my pharmacist's warning, I called my doctor and inquired about this issue. The end result was that another medication was prescribed for me. So, call your doctor and resolve this concern with them. There are other medications that could possibly be prescribed. Good luck,

I am on all of the above. This greatly concerns me, now. I had my Lipids done at GP's doctor's office as I was way past due. He was alarmed as my Cholesterol and Trigl/HDL and LDL were very much out of line. I was shocked when I read the numbers. Now, I am wondering if there is a connection. My glucose has always been very normal. This too was high. Thanks for sharing this.

Hello, I am taking 80 mg lipitor and 10 of zetia which equals one of the vytorins. Today i talked to my Doctor and pharmacist. The cartizem or cartia or diltiazem (all the same) just make the chances of developing a muscle problem higher. This is the reason your doctor should not only be checking for lipids every three months but also your PKU which will tell him if your muscles are inflamed. Good luck.
