Greetings! After experiending shortness of breath for the past six months, I had pulmonary function tests as well as a methocholine challenge test for asthma. I was told I have exercise-induced asthma and now use Albuterol inhaler prior to exercise. I still find it difficult to climb stairs as I get so winded by the time I reach the top. My question is this....the pulmonologist now told me he wants to do a cardiopulmonary exercise test because he isn't totally convinced that asthma is the cause of my shortness of breath. Has anyone been through this type of testing and what are they looking for? I have been reading online about pulmonary hypertension and am trying to see if that is the cause of my SOB and hypertension. I was told also by this pulmonologist that a CT scan performed a year ago for kidney stones revealed I have a pulmonary vein (or artery) that is larger than the others. Does anyone know what significance this would be, if any? Just curious about my continued breathing difficulties and wondered if any of you out there have experienced any of these. I have atherosclerosis, HTN, high cholesterol, tricuspid and mitral regurgitation, insulin resistance and now the asthma.
