can 2 stents put in LAD at the same time

0 Recommendations

My father got was having a chest pain and he did the Angiography where report says tht LAD had 90 % , other 2 had 80% blockages.. Doctor put 2 stents in the LAD overlapping (without our Consent while he said only 1). in other 2 artilerries also he put one stent each at the same time.. so 4 stents at he same hour.
My query is
1. Can LAD hav 2 stents at the same time. tht too overlapping?
2. blockage more then 90 % was it safe for doctor to advise for Stenting?
The trauma of pain n swelling in legs came bt doc said its only a cold n common problem.. (all treatment was dont by no .1 Dr. Ashok Seth , From Escorts Fortis Hospital.)
they admitted my dad for 4 days bt also they didnt able to detect the problem and said its nt a big deal.
and after two weeks, they said there is a leakage in LAD and they did the by-pass after which my dad never spoke and after 25 days he left for heavenly abode. but the pain over 25 days was nt comparable..
If u want to know more about the case lemme knw i will send u in details. I have lost my father but can or try to save many lives..
BUT PLEASE HELP ME TO FIGHT THE CASE AGAINST MONEY MINDED DOCTORS.

I currently have 5 stents in my LAD. I had 2 placed - these blocked up, so they put 2 more inside those and then another at the end - so on an xray it would look like 3 in a row, with no gaps. I didn't get the impression that it was very unusual to do this.

I forgot to add - my blockages were also 90%

If you do some research on stent placement, you will find that overlapping 2 stents is considered "off lable" use, meaning the manufacturer does not intend for them to be used that way. That said, a lot of cardiologists do place them this way. I had a 98% blockage of my LAD stented and then a year later an 80% blockage right behind the first was stented and the cardiologist opted to overlap the two. I was not asked about it, it was just done. I had no problems with it, until a year and a half after that when both those stents blocked along with another area of my LAD and I needed emergency bypass surgery.

I am truly sorry for the loss of your father and hope that you are able to find some peace soon.

I got 2 stents in my LAD this year, both very looooonng, one procedure. They do not overlap. My LAD was 100% blocked. This was needed to stop additional damage to my heart muscle, which would have killed me soon enough. I was 43 at the time.
I tell you this because I do understand it to be a normal process to expect to place a single stent but then discover that more are needed.

I'm sorry to hear your Dad was so sick, and that the treatment he was given was not able to keep him from dying. You sound devastated by your loss, angry at the doctors for giving him so many treatments.

I hope you are able to find people in your local community who can help you with all of this - standards of care for cardiac patients, comfort in your grief, and help in paying the bills in case you are worried about that too.

Your Dad must have been a special guy - consider starting a journal to write down all the memories you have about him. Maybe you and your family can have a "Funny Dad Story" sharing session over Thanksgiving. Taking time to honor his memory will feel sad and good.

Peace

Hi, I had a 95% block in my LAD and two overlapping stents were fitted to ensure that the entire area of blockage and the areas either side of it were covered too. I was told that this was usual to support the whole area of affected artery.

Sorry for your loss.
Take Care x

I too am sorry for your loss. At such a time, it's normal to feel angry and resentful and want to blame somebody, anybody, for what has happened.

I think the truth is that often doctors don't know until they get right inside the heart what the extent of the true problem is. For example, would you have preferred that, instead of trying to open a 90% blocked artery, the doctor would have stopped his procedure and gone out to chat with the rest of the family to see what you wanted him to do? My guess would be that your family would have said "YES of course - do what you need to do to save him!"

I had a 99% blockage of my LAD and was stented. My observation is that most cardiologists prefer to do the least invasive procedure - like angioplasty/stenting if it's at all possible (otherwise, ALL of us heart patients would automatically go straight for open heart surgery, which is far more serious and like all major surgery, has far greater risks of complications and death, as you sadly have learned.

I have met women with seven stents, all implanted during the same procedure - I'm not sure there is even a limit!

It sounds like you consider that the doctor caring for your Dad was "#1", which is comforting to know. So when you mention "the case" - are you suing the doctor/hospital?

XOXOXOXO

Hi. I too am very sorry about your dad. Mine died of a massive MI and I still hurt. Having just this past Monday had a second stent put in my LAD, (I am now the proud owner of five), I only wish that he had lived long enough to enjoy modern science. Having inherited his genes, I suppose I reap the gifts of science that he did not. That said, the doctor who did my stents is (no joke) world famous and supposedly practically invented the stent, so I guess I trust him.

Hello Frnds.. thnks for your replies and support.
@ Queen .. my dad was not sick at all.. he was all fine n well.. he went for a regular chekup.. & tht too driving his own car as usuall.. Docs persue him to go for stenting.. he was nonsmoker, no diabetic, no hisrtory or background of heart, perfect kidney & lungs, i mean no problem at all.. he was very fine and use to do regular excercise & strict diet..
@ kennarina
yeah i m planing to sue the docs n hospital as at various points there was negligence.. as when my dad went to hospital on 14 tht is after 17 days of stenting tht he is having prob.. they took it lightly and after x ray where it says tht there is pericardiac diffusion n a leakage in LAD they didnt care to do the Angiography or take the liquid out of heart.. which turn into temponade for which reason his heart went weak in just 2 weeks.. b4 by-pass..

You said in your original post your dad had chest pain. They were your very first words. Now you say it was a regular check up and was healthy.

I'm really sorry he passed away and I wish you luck with your law suit. I have two stents in one artery, but had to have emergency triple bypass also. The doctor made a terrible mistake, but it wasn't by placing two stents. He placed them to stop his mistake.

Do they do things differently in India than here?

@ Asurvivor..
yeah he had sum chest pain that is why he went for a check up with the doctor.. where he did regular chek up including.. Diabetes, echo, for lungs, lever, sum culture reports. then at echo he said sum prob then he did Angiography..
I m not sure the things are different in India and US or not? but will search for it..
One new thing which i came to knw today that in India they always say to go for stenting as doctors get the commision from the stent company.. AMAZING... in India everything is very commercialised.. this is what i spoke to a frnd who sells stent in India.. they say commision varies from 30 % to 70 % depending on stent n company of stent..

srimal, that's what I meant by are things different. Here the doctors get trips and free meals from suppliers. So no different really. There are more angiographs done today than ever. I almost didn't survive mine.

Do you have universal health care? Did he get treatment right away? I read a book about India and it said the health care isn't up to standards of other countries. Of course, most of your doctors come here to study and practice and that may be why. They're pretty smart when they come, so I don't know why they didn't listen to your dad. Again, I'm so sorry about your loss.

I had a large stent put in my LAD after I clearly told the doctor in the cath lab I would approve an angioplasty (balloon) and angiogram, but no stent. I was very clear. He ignored me and I have severe post stent chest pain every day. He claims in records he had a quick ethics review with his colleagues, then installed the stent without my permission. He sedated me to be unconcious before he started the procedure.

The above web "http" contains the best article to explain what is wrong with us who may have problems post stenting... there are newer articles and american written that say the same thing... but I like this one as it is so easy to understand, has pictures of the problem, etc.

I will later post another article that tells what some doctors are trying drug wise to help, but none of the drugs helped me really. One is Celebrex, for example, or prednisone, dangerous drugs perhaps, but tried by doctors.

Note other recent articles written by american doctors and scientists about patent (compeletly open) stents, yet severe chest pain/angina, are by some very exteemed doctors.

Some others are convinced it is the plastic (polymer) coating around the Drug eluding stent adding to the already big problem of constant non-bending and stretch. The problem of post (after) stent pain would occur with the bare large stent, but not as much as with the Drug eluding stent... The plastic coating has been a big mistake, I have read in may places. Now they are developing stents where the plastic dissolves after a few months.

...if you really take time to search the web, you will see dozens of well written articles about it... only way out I think seems to be to somehow have a bypass around the stent, eliminate it.

...In my case (now 5 years old) it would mean perhaps a 5 way bypass, since the stent is sticking into the left main, though the blockage was origionally only in the small part of one vessel, the LAD osteum (end). So I am screwed. Others I know were able to bypass and remove the stent with out much trouble, single vessel, etc., though it was open chest, heart out, heart lung machine, full bypass, but only one vessel. In my case, a 5 way bypass would be too dangerous, so I have sought other means without success. I have tried all natural anti inflammitories with no success. I feel time is running out.

I have severe chest pain every nite and morning since the very morning after it was installed. Including now.

Dear Steve ,
Hope u get relief frm the chest pain as soon as possible..
I have lost my father in jst two months . I think it is all negligence of the doctors... in jst two months .. they did the by pass n it was nt successful.. we got the post martym done n it said that the stent was nt put properly..
Hope u get well soon.. dont delay the things.. n dont rely on the doctors only..
all the best..
