Beggining of many questions with OHS

Been 2 wks since surgery and see dr in 3 wks. Can anyone tell me is that usually when the dr. gives the ok for reaching behind back and above head and will I feel comfortable enough to do so; like wash my back and hair without help?
Also any suggestions cutting down on pain meds? On tramadol every 6 hrs and hydro codone every 4 but dr only refilling tramadol. Thanks

I've not heard of a restriction for raising arms to wash hair, etc., after OHS. If you have such a restriction and feel ok to do these things, I would call the doctor's office about it to confirm it. It doesn't sound like it would impair healing of the sternum to do such.

The major restrictions after surgery are not driving for 4-6 weeks, and no heavy lifting.

Hi Aundy,

Try taking the Tramadol with two tylenol. It creates a stronger medication when the two of them are combined and is much better than the taking the Tramadol alone. Especially when you start to pull off of the bigger stuff.

Be truthful with your docs about your pain level. Stay on top of the pain and don't wait until you are in agony before you take your meds. This is kind of a tricky period of the healing process when you are still in pain.

All the best,
Bj

From all the info and instructions not to reach behind back or brush back of hair to keep from pulling the sternum apart along with a ton of others. Makes me very paramour.
they also put in instructions to stop taking ibuprofen and tylenol. I stpoed the hydrocodene yesterday eve and didn't sleep as good last night. Will have to call tommorrow and ask about the tylenol. Thanks!'

Suppose to say Makes me very paranoid. Using mothers kindle and what a pain to type on.
