First of all, welcome to the group! I am so glad that your surgery was a success! (Especially since you had it on my birthday! : ) ) It is amazing how easy it is to take life for granted! I hope you are doing okay now.
You'll be in my prayers!
Carolyn

Welcome and congratulations on the success of your surgery. Yes, I had my first aortic replacement over 13 years ago. Although you are thankful (as I was) to be alive, and you got through the surgery well, you may not realize it but you will have some form of depression. It is very important to start a support group (WomenHeart will offer some of that on line) with other women who have had some sort of heart event ... it doesn't have to be aortic surgical procedures. We are all women, are mothers, wives and need the support of our own kind.
I went to my local Visiting Nurse Association and with their help and in their facility, we found a suitable moderator (a nurse who could council) and we met for a year. It was the most valuable thing I did for myself. I still lecture occasionally when asked and have connections with both the RVNA and the local hospital women's cardiac staff (which is only 5 miles from my house.) 145 miles is a long way to go for support, try to get something going within a few miles of your home. It will be easier and you will connect with others in your own community. There are plenty of us around! Good Luck. Emelie
