Hi. I feel so foolish even complaining and I am so grateful for your forum. I will be 53 next month. I recently went to the cardiologist for a pre-op clearance and learned I have three leaky valves, aortic is mild to moderate, mild mitral valve and mild tricuspid. Ejection fraction is 65%. I know this is good, but I have been Sob for months, coupled with extreme lethargy. I've been vigilant about checking thyroid function, and after exhaustive tests, have been told I have the beginning of thyroid disease. I have two aunts with thyroid cancer, both sides of family and cousins on both sides with hypothyroidism. I was frustrated that my tests were always borderline, but I still didn't feel right. I was shocked when the doc told me about my heart. Since my early 30s, I've had what I now think we're heart palpitations, flushing, warmth and dizzy spells. Often, I get visual disturbances, grey-outs, with peripheral vision. This has happened since my 20s. I used to think it was hypoglycemia, but for the last 15 years it occurs with a proper diet. Have such a mish-mash of symptoms that I feel like I get bounced around from doc to doc. Last week, I had an extreme dizzy spell for no discernible reason. I feel like I have to wait until I have an MI before someone pays attention. I'm not a hypochondriac, nor am I histrionic, but this getting bounced around is getting frustrating. I don't have chest pain, but rather chest tightening. Btw, I have extensive heart disease, both sides of family and my paternal grandmother died at 53, mi followed by stroke. Thoughts?

First of all, everyone has mild leakage of the tricuspid valve. I asked my surgeon about that mine reviewing some old echo reports, and he said everyone has it, so I would not be concerned about that at all.
What surgery was your pre-op clearance for? It sounds like you had an echo since you know valve status and EF; however, an echo is not the most reliable test. With the signs of SOB and lethargy, your aortic and/or mitral valve may be in poorer states than the echo indicates. I would ask your cardiologist, in light of how you feel, if a TEE or cardiac cath would be the next logical step to determine just what the status of those valves actually are.
I was tired for about 2 years before I had my aortic valve replaced. SOB did not come about until about one year before. SOB is either cardiac or pulmonary. It's not normal. If it's not from you heart, then you should get a pulmonary evaluation.
