pain after chemo?

0 Recommendations

I had my second round of chemo for ovarian cancer last week. I have a lot of pain in my joints and bones. Does anyone else experience this? My Dr. looks at me like am nuts. It is really painful but I wonder if it's in my mind or if I have something else. It happened both times, worse the first than this last time but still bad.

Hope you are all well,
Kris

Kris,

I have a friend that has just been through Chemo for ovarian cancer. She has had lots of pain in her joints and bones but I thought that it was from some shots following the chemo. I think it was shots to keep her blood counts up, but I'm not sure. Sorry I don't know more.

Hang in there. I can't speak from experience, yet, but others have "been there, done that" and they are getting on with the things they love to do. Keep the faith and your eye on the goal... when this will be behind you!

Hi Kris,

I'm not sure what kind of chemo you are getting but a friend of mine had bone and joint pain from her breast cancer chemo. The Neulasta shots they give you to boost your white counts can give you bone and joint pain too. I experienced this from my injections after each chemo treatment. The Prednisone also gave me some bone and joint pain but more so after the completion of my treatments. Don't let the docs blow you off. You know your body more than anyone. Keep a journal of how you are doing and feeling this could be of use to your docs as well. You should get info sheets about all of the drugs they are giving you in your chemo, just like the ones your pharmacy gives you on your prescriptions. These should have all the info about the drugs and side effects. I hope you are doing well. Take care of yourself.
Blessings and prayers are with you,
Joy

Hi Kris

Have just had Round 3 - and yes - have the aches and pains in the joints. They are bearable but then again my doc has given me good painkillers to take when it sets in. Usually hits me 2 days after treatment and lasts for about 4 days. Its definitely not in your mind!!! I think you are having the same treatment as me - Taxol and Carboplatin - I was warned to expect the pain.

Stay strong!

Hi there Kolson...I am a stage IIIC Ovarian Cancer survivor. Currently going thru chemo treatments for the second time. The first time in 2007. I had chemo last Wednesday. And about 3 days after chemo, my bones start hurting. I am experiencing the bone pain right now. It is a side affect of the taxol I am on. I became allergic to carbo so he has me just on the taxol. Hon, you are not immagining the pain. It is very real. I take alieve along with my other pain pills. And that seems to really help. Does not take the pain completely away, but makes it much more managable.
This too, will pass. Love and ((HUGS)) are sent your way.

Hi I too have had severe joint and muscle pain. I am on carbo and taxol. My doctor has tried a few different drugs until they found one that helped with the pain. I also found that if I wrapped myself in a heating blanket it seemed to help.

Dear Kris,

this is my first posting. I decided to join because I could so much identify with your situation. I did suffer a lot of pain in the joints and bones, during my first line treatment. Neither the oncologist, nor anybody else on the medical team, was of any help. The pain lasted through the entire treatment period and for a year past it. Nobody had an answer for me, neither on the cause nor could suggest any form of relief. From my experience, I know now it was the Taxol. I had subsequent treatments combined with Carboplatin and did not have the same problem. What did I do to help myself ? after reading and researching I practiced therapeutic yoga, I took a supplement called Curamin, which contains curcumin, a natural anti-inflammatory. I did swim slowly whenever I could, and four months after treatment I joined a dance class. It took a lot of patience and perseverance but in the end it worked and in the meantime tango dance has become one of my passions and helps me tremendously to fight also depressive moods. I wish you well, bluewhale

Kris -- I hope by this time you are done with your treatments and that all is well with you! Since this post popped up to the top & I could relate I decided to add my 2 cents! I am also on carbo/taxol for ovarian cancer (stage 3c). I have had terrible bone pain. When I told the doctor of my pain he prescrived a heavy dose of ibubrofen (600 mgs I think?) to take every 4 hours for the first few days post-treatment in addition to the pain killers as needed. It was a tremendous help for me. The pain in my shins and feet had been unbearable - it felt like someone was grasping my feet by the sides and crushing them. I hope people experiencing this same pain realize that you should tell your doctor -- do not live with this pain if there is something that might help! Good luck to everyone.
Kristin

Hi Kris!
I am new to this site, but when I read your post, I knew I had to respond. I was diagnosed in Aug 2009 w/ Stage IIIC OVCA. I have had 2 chemo treatments. The first one left me sleeping for about 3 days, this time I have a lot of the same complaints that you do...muscle/joint aches and pains...I am seeing my Onc tomorrow and plan to discuss this w/him...I will let you know what he says.
