Oncotype Test

I recently learned about a new test that can help determine if women with early stage breast cancer need to receive chemotherapy. The test is called oncotype; has anyone used this test?

Cancer Chemotherapy Hormone therapy Breast cancer

My friend who had early breast cancer had the test done at the suggestion of her doctor. According to the test, she wouldn't really benefit from chemotherapy, so she is only being treated with hormone therapy. She was really scared of going through chemotherapy, and is really thankful for the test, as her chances of having the cancer return are very low.

Hi Charlene,

I am just now in the process of having that test done. Looking at the date of your post, if you were going to have the test, you would have already have had it by now. If so, was it helpful in making your treatment decision? Thanks

I had the oncotype test which showed I was a borderline to high risk, so I underwent chemo. A friend of mine had a very low score and did not receive chemo. Seems like another good step forward in customizing our treatment.

I had the onco dx test, score of 6, which was explained to me meant the risk from chemo would be higher then any benefit I could receive from chemo, so did not have chemo, just hormonal therapy. Be aware, this is a very expensive test $3.500.00) which I am still appealing with my insurance company as they denied the test as being experimental and unproven and therefore not a covered benefit. This despite two board certified in network oncologist, independent of each other, recommended I have the test.
