Has anyone used Dr. Bauman in Houston for reconstruction after a mastectomy

0 Recommendations

I have talked with two plastic surgeons. One suggested a saline implant by itself after mastectomy. The other suggested implant plus latissimus flap from my back.

I want to see pictures of both so I can compare, but Dr. Bauman from MD Anderson didn't have any on hand at the time I asked. He reluctantly said he would show me ONE on the next visit. I have not seen any of his work nor do I know anyone who has used him. Have any of you familiar with him????

The other surgeon is one I am familiar with and he suggested an implant by itself. That sounds so much simpler, but I don't know how it will look without the extra tissue and muscle from the latissimus flap.

I'm afraid to make a decision. I want the breast to look and feel as natural as possible. I know the flap surgery is more painful and takes longer to heal, but my main concern is trying to get the best results. If it is a toss up, I'd rather get the implant only surgery.

Anyone???? I'm so torn, just not knowing which surgeon to use. Both think they are right and without pictures or anyone to talk to, I feel slightly overwhelmed.

Thanks for any advice.

Pam

Maybe go to a third surgeon, just to get a perspective? I may have reconstructive surgery in a year or so--haven't finished w/ my breast cancer treatment yet. Strange that the one doctor doesn't have pictures for you--last year I visited a great plastic surgeon, and she had a notebook of pictures! Don't decide prematurely! Maybe ask people on this site about their experiences. Also I'm sure you can find some info. online. In Seattle, there's sort of an information center at Swedish, my hospital. See what you can find locally, perhaps? Must be resources in Houston! Good luck to you!
